Santa Claus House in Castel Castagna

The Santa Claus House is the Christmas event that every December transforms the small municipality of Castel Castagna, in the province of Teramo, into a vast enchanted village in the heart of the Valle Siciliana at the foot of the Gran Sasso d'Italia. The event takes place in the area in front of the Abbey of Santa Maria di Ronzano, one of the Romanesque jewels of the so-called Valley of the Abbeys, combining tradition, spirituality, nature, and play in a family-friendly experience.

A fairytale village of elves and reindeer

The route is divided into three large themed areas that have made the event famous throughout Abruzzo: the Luminous Garden, with its immersive light installations; the Elf Village, where Santa's little helpers welcome children; and the Enchanted Forest, a fairytale setting filled with trees, cottages, and animated characters.

Strolling through the attractions, you will encounter a sleigh with reindeer, giant glowing flowers and butterflies, a small pond with a bridge, mushroom-shaped houses, Santa's magical carriage and bedroom, the post office for mailing letters, and the Storytelling Elf's corner. There is also artificial snow, creative paper and wood workshops, and a market featuring typical products from the Teramo area.

A growing tradition

Launched in 2016, the event has grown year after year to become one of the most visited Christmas attractions in the Teramo hinterland, with an average of about 50,000 visitors recorded each edition. The initiative is promoted by the municipal administration of Castel Castagna with the support of the BIM Consortium of Teramo, neighboring municipalities, local associations, and numerous volunteers.

Free entry and family focus

The Santa Claus House offers free entry and is open to the public every afternoon, while mornings are reserved for school groups by appointment. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the magic of the Christmas season while discovering an authentic Abruzzo village and its extraordinary historical and artistic heritage.
