Ten days of tradition, sports, and Canavese flavors in Baldissero
The Ascension Patronal Festival is the heart of community life in Baldissero Canavese, a small town in the Province of Turin nestled among the hills of the Canavese region in Piedmont. For nearly half a century, every spring, the village transforms for ten days into a major gathering point: families, local conscripts, former residents returning for the occasion, and curious visitors from the surrounding areas all meet at the famous food pavilion, the true symbol of the event.
The food pavilion is the beating heart of the festival: entirely managed by Pro Loco volunteers, it offers a complete menu ranging from appetizers to desserts, including main courses, grilled meats, selected wines, and beers. Among the most beloved local specialties are the Monti Pelati peppers, grilled meats, French fries, spaghetti with bagna caöda, and the traditional fried fish. It is here that you can experience the most genuine spirit of a Piedmontese village festival, made of simple flavors and conviviality.
Beyond the dining, the program weaves together dance evenings with orchestras and bands, disco nights with DJ sets, an international sports day, and classic local traditions. Not to be missed are the conscripts' gathering—the event that brings together people born in years ending with the same digit—and the special opening of the Vespiolla Chapel, a jewel featuring medieval frescoes that tells the religious and artistic history of the village. For the little ones, the funfair completes the festive atmosphere.
The Ascension Festival has its roots in the village's patronal devotion and has established itself over the years as the defining identity event of Baldissero Canavese. In 2026, the event celebrates a special milestone: the fiftieth anniversary of the food pavilion, a symbol of the voluntary commitment that has kept the festival alive for generations. It is an opportunity to discover the hospitality of the Canavese region and the authenticity of a community that, year after year, renews the pleasure of being together.
The 2026 edition of the Ascension Festival in Baldissero Canavese celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the food pavilion, the heart of the event. Ten days of programming, from May 29 to June 7, combined tradition, taste, and fun, with the pavilion managed by Pro Loco volunteers open for lunches and dinners.
Among the most popular events: the international sports day, the conscripts' gathering, dance evenings with orchestras and bands, disco nights with DJ sets, and the special opening of the Vespiolla Chapel with its historic frescoes. The funfair and the Canavese specialties served at the pavilion were, as always, unmissable.
Throughout the festival: food pavilion (weekdays from 8:00 PM, Saturday from 7:00 PM, Sundays and holidays lunch from 12:15 PM and dinner from 7:00 PM) and funfair.
