The Christmas market in the village of the Passion, nestled in the Biella mountains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sordevolo Angels' Market is one of the most anticipated Christmas events in the Biella area. For several Sundays between November and December, the small town of Sordevolo, nestled in the Elvo Valley at the foot of the Piedmont mountains, dresses up for the holidays: the streets of the center light up and four giant angels, symbols of Peace and Love, welcome visitors in an atmosphere suspended between tradition and magic.
Along the market route, you will find wooden stalls and open-air stands featuring handicrafts, gift ideas, and local food and wine specialties. The exhibitors come mainly from Piedmont and the nearby Aosta Valley, and they change with every opening day, ensuring a different selection each Sunday. Gourmet highlights include the Baita daj Plinat for roasted chestnuts, the Bar degli Angeli for mulled wine and hot chocolate, and traditional dishes like polenta concia and riso in cagnone prepared by the Alpini, as well as a corner dedicated to gluten-free products.
The market, established in 2002, is organized by the Sordevolo Popular Theatre Association, the same group that preserves and passes down the famous Sordevolo Passion, the sacred representation performed every five years in the town's impressive amphitheater. During the days of the Angels' Market, it is possible to visit the Museum of the Passion to discover the history of this popular spectacle that has animated the village's cultural life for generations.
More than just a simple Christmas fair, the Angels' Market is an event that combines tradition, craftsmanship, and solidarity, brought to life by hundreds of volunteers. Recurring initiatives include Angeli in Coro, a singing festival dedicated to school students, along with cultural exhibitions, gospel concerts, activities for children, and meetings with Santa Claus. The event is supported by the Municipality of Sordevolo and involves the entire community of the Province of Biella.
Visiting the Angels' Market means experiencing an authentic Christmas in a mountain village in Piedmont, far from the crowds of the big cities. Amidst lights, the scent of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine, local crafts, and the charm of the village of the Passion, Sordevolo offers a warm and familiar experience in the heart of the Biella region.
