The summer cultural festival of Vico del Gargano
At Agorà, the historic center of Vico del Gargano returns to being what the Greek name promises: a place of meeting, dialogue, and community. Promoted by the Municipality of Vico del Gargano - Department of Cultural Activities - together with the local Pro Loco, the festival brings some of the most authoritative figures in Italian popular science, as well as writers, scholars, and professionals, to the squares of the village, one of the most picturesque in the Province of Foggia and all of Puglia, to discuss the most current themes of contemporary society.
The heart of the event beats in two iconic spots of the historic center: Piazza San Domenico and Piazza Castello. Here, under the stars of the Gargano summer, meetings, dialogues, and book presentations alternate in an informal atmosphere that brings the public closer to the guests. Each evening is accompanied by the 'Distrazioni musicali', curated by Angela Virgilio with the extraordinary participation of maestro Francesco Mastromatteo, which weave words and music into a single narrative.
Agorà spans multiple disciplines: literature, psychology, science, cinema, and current events intertwine in a program designed to stimulate reflection and intergenerational exchange. An important space is reserved for local youth: with the Cinema Scuola Lab, students from the I.I.S.S. Publio Virgilio Marone of Vico del Gargano present short films created as part of a project funded by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, a sign of a festival that aims to be not just a showcase but also a cultural engine for the community.
Curated by the Department of Cultural Activities led by Rita Selvaggio, Agorà is now one of the most distinctive features of the Vico del Gargano summer and is part of a seasonal calendar that includes dozens of events ranging from music and theater to tradition. The meetings, all with free admission, begin at 9:30 PM and are open to residents and tourists alike, in a village that becomes one of the liveliest destinations in the Gargano during the summer.
The Agorà 2026 cultural festival enlivens the summer of Vico del Gargano from July 9th to August 29th, transforming Piazza San Domenico and Piazza Castello into a modern agora of dialogue and participation. Seven events, all free and starting at 9:30 PM, bring writers, scientists, pedagogists, and speakers to the Gargano village. Each evening is enhanced by the 'Distrazioni musicali' of Angela Virgilio with maestro Francesco Mastromatteo. Among the most anticipated moments are the lecture by pedagogist Daniela Lucangeli and the closing evening entrusted to General Luciano Garofano, with a space dedicated to youth thanks to the Cinema Scuola Lab of the I.I.S.S. Publio Virgilio Marone students.
Opening with writer Gianluca Caporaso, who presents the novel Le cime di Arturo.
