The cultural accolade of Peschici dedicated to the sea and the identity of the Gargano
The Trabucco Award is a cultural event through which the Municipality of Peschici—a village overlooking the Adriatic in the heart of the Gargano promontory, in the province of Foggia (Apulia)—pays tribute to personalities who have dedicated themselves to safeguarding the sea, the land, and the rule of law, while promoting Mediterranean identity. Established in 2016, the award takes its name from the trabucchi, the impressive wooden fishing machines that have reached out over the water for centuries, defining the landscape of the Gargano coast and becoming its most recognizable symbol.
Throughout its editions, the Trabucco Award has brought leading names from the worlds of entertainment, journalism, science, and culture to Peschici. Past recipients include journalist and presenter Donatella Bianchi, actor and comedian Gabriele Cirilli, physicist and science communicator Valerio Rossi Albertini, and, in 2025, the Apulian singer-songwriter Al Bano Carrisi. The ceremony combines moments of reflection, entertainment, and the celebration of local traditions, cementing its place as a deeply rooted fixture in the town's summer calendar.
The award is part of the rich summer program of the Municipality of Peschici, which enlivens the village from June to September with dozens of events, including concerts, shows, meetings, and cultural initiatives. The ideal setting for the event is the historic center of Peschici, with its white houses perched above the sea, and iconic local landmarks such as the trabucchi and the beaches of the Gargano, one of the most beloved tourist destinations in Apulia.
In addition to the award ceremony, the Trabucco Award editions feature conferences, book presentations, screenings, and meetings dedicated to the relationship between humanity and the sea, the history of the trabucchi, and the protection of the coastal environment. It is an opportunity to reflect on the identity heritage of the Gargano and to promote Peschici as a cultural reference point for the Capitanata region.
The tenth edition of the Trabucco Award will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in Peschici, as part of the summer program of the Municipality led by Mayor Luigi D'Arenzo. The event starts at 10:00 AM at the P. Granieri Auditorium with the Trabucchi and Trabocchi Day conference, which includes greetings from civil and military authorities, the participation of guests from the world of entertainment and the press, the screening of a vintage film, and the presentation of the book Trabucchi e Trabocchi... L'Uomo e il Mare... Una Storia Infinita by Hon. Prof. Nino Marinacci.
The morning continues with the Integration Weekend: Erasmus students discovering the city of Peschici initiative, organized by ESN Bari, confirming the cultural and welcoming vocation of the event.
Peschici is located on the Gargano promontory, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Poggio Imperiale or Foggia exit), continuing along the SS89 Garganica road. The nearest train stations are in Foggia or San Severo, which are connected to Peschici by bus lines. The closest airports are in Bari and Pescara.
Events for the Trabucco Award are generally free of charge, subject to availability.
The event takes place during the peak summer season: it is recommended to book accommodation in Peschici or nearby Gargano towns well in advance.
