Theatre and music at sunset amidst the salt pans of the Stagnone in Marsala

'A Scurata - Tales and Songs at Sunset is one of the most original cultural offerings of the summer in the Municipality of Marsala, in the province of Trapani, Western Sicily. The festival, dedicated to live theatre and music, was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to bring performances to the most magical moment of the day, when the sun sets behind the Egadi Islands and the light reflects off the waters of the Stagnone lagoon.
The stage is located within the ancient Saline Genna, in the Stagnone Nature Reserve. It is an entirely eco-friendly sea theatre, built with blocks of tuff and salt, without mortar or chemical materials, and featuring recycled wood seating: a structure that respects the environment and engages with the landscape. The performance space, suspended over the water, offers the audience a view that spans from the salt pans and windmills to the silhouette of the Egadi Islands on the horizon.
Each event kicks off at sunset, around 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM, so that the performance intertwines with the changing colors of the sky. The program is multidisciplinary, alternating between prose, readings, jazz concerts, tributes to singer-songwriters, reinterpretations of classical myths, and narratives from the Sicilian popular tradition. The festival also showcases numerous local artistic talents, with artists from the province of Trapani performing alongside well-known names from the national scene.
Promoted by the Movimento Artistico Culturale (MAC) of the City of Marsala, 'A Scurata has established itself over the years as a highly anticipated event of the Marsala summer, capable of combining culture, sustainability, and slow tourism. Recent editions have featured a rich program of theatre, music, myth, and poetry, spread throughout the summer months.
Attending 'A Scurata means experiencing Marsala and its territory from a new perspective: the city of wine and the landing of the Thousand serves as the backdrop to one of the most fascinating nature reserves in the Sicilian Region, where salt pans, flamingos, and sunsets create a landscape of rare beauty.
The 2026 edition of 'A Scurata is included in the summer calendar of Marsala, with events planned between June and August in the Stagnone Reserve. The precise dates and detailed program have not yet been made public. The festival will maintain its characteristic formula: performances starting at sunset, on the sea stage built among the ancient Saline Genna salt pans, with a view of the Egadi Islands.
