1° Mangio — Valle dei Laghi Food & Wine Walk

A walk through the flavors of the Valle dei Laghi

The "1° Mangio" is a gourmet walking tour that brings the Valle dei Laghi to life every May 1st. Located in the municipality of Cavedine, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the event was created to showcase the products and villages of this corner of Trentino overlooking Lake Garda. The route covers approximately 10-11 kilometers with a moderate elevation gain, punctuated by stops dedicated to food, wine, and music. Over the years, it has become one of the valley's most popular events, attracting over a thousand walkers each year.

The route and culinary stops

The itinerary passes through the villages and hamlets of the Cavedine municipality — Vigo Cavedine, Calavino, Lasino, Stravino, Cavedine, and Brusino — amidst vineyards, olive groves, and views of the valley's lakes. At each stop, participants are welcomed with a different traditional Trentino course, from savory to sweet, in a traveling menu that unfolds step by step:

• Welcome breakfast with barley coffee and biscuits;
• Crostini with lard pâté and traditional sauce;
• Focaccia with local cold cuts and mountain cheeses;
• Strangolapreti, gnocchi, and other local first courses;
• Carne salada with beans, one of the signature dishes of Trentino;
• Desserts, coffee, and spirits to conclude the walk.

Valle dei Laghi wine is served in a reusable glass provided at the start (with a small deposit), reflecting the organization's commitment to sustainability.

Music, crafts, and conviviality

Along the route, the stops turn into small stages: local bands and musicians accompany the breaks with acoustic concerts and entertainment, while some hamlets feature demonstrations of ancient trades and crafts. The atmosphere is that of a traditional village festival, where the walk becomes an opportunity to meet, chat, and rediscover the valley's folk culture.

A local event

The event is organized by the Consorzio Pro Loco Valle dei Laghi with the support of the Municipality of Cavedine and local associations. The "1° Mangio" represents a simple and authentic way to discover the Valle dei Laghi, a border territory between Trentino and Lake Garda, famous for its wines—first and foremost the Vino Santo—and for its landscape shaped by vineyards and bodies of water.
