A celebration of the flavors of the Zapponeta countryside in the Gulf of Manfredonia
For over thirty years, the Zapponeta Typical Products Festival has celebrated what makes this small town in the Province of Foggia, overlooking the Gulf of Manfredonia, so special: a sandy and fertile countryside that produces vegetables known throughout Puglia. In 2025, the event reached its 34th edition, confirming its place as one of the most cherished summer culinary gatherings in the Tavoliere region.
The heart of the festival lies in the locally grown vegetables: the renowned Zapponeta onions, along with carrots, tomatoes, and potatoes, prepared with authentic ingredients according to traditional recipes passed down by local families. Each dish tells the story of the deep bond between the community and its agricultural roots, in a territory where the vegetable garden and the sea coexist just steps apart.
The festival takes place in Piazza Aldo Moro, Zapponeta's open-air living room, which transforms for one evening into a grand celebration filled with stalls, aromas, and music. The formula blends dining with social life: it is an opportunity to gather, rediscover local flavors, and experience the Gargano summer in an authentic way.
The event is organized by the San Michele Arcangelo Parish with the patronage of the Municipality of Zapponeta and is part of the Zapponeta Blu Festival, the summer program promoted by the municipal administration that weaves together musical evenings, gastronomic moments, and the enhancement of the coastline. The reference to "blue" evokes the Blue Flag that the town has proudly held for years and the sea that defines its identity, between golden beaches and cultivated fields.
The Zapponeta Typical Products Festival returns on July 27, 2026, in Piazza Aldo Moro, upholding the tradition that brings the community together every late July around the flavors of the local garden. Organized by the San Michele Arcangelo Parish with the support of the Municipality of Zapponeta, the evening combines tastings of local vegetables, music, and performances as a stop on the Zapponeta Blu Festival.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including performances and guest artists, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. The established format includes the opening of food stalls in the evening, starting at 8:00 PM, featuring dishes based on onions, carrots, tomatoes, and potatoes prepared by local families, accompanied by live music in Piazza Aldo Moro.
