XC Salussola

A spring classic of Biella MTB

XC Salussola is a cross-country (XC) mountain bike race held in the territory of Salussola, a small town in the province of Biella, Piedmont. Launched just a few years ago, the event has grown with every edition, becoming a fixed appointment for bikers in the North-West, drawn by a challenging track that winds through the woods, paths, and hills surrounding the town.

Organization and circuits

The race is organized by Team Pedale Pazzo under the aegis of CSAIN (Corporate and Industrial Sports Centers), a sports promotion body. The event is not isolated: it is part of several competitive calendars, and in recent seasons it has been included as a stage of the CSAIN Piedmont Cup, the Wolf Cup, and the North-Northwest MTB XC Championship. This triple significance explains the high turnout of registered athletes and the importance of the day for the general rankings of the respective circuits.

The course and categories

Cross-country is a discipline that tests both endurance and technique: the XC Salussola track alternates fast sections, steep climbs, and technical descents, carved into the Biella hilly landscape. The race is open to CSAIN-registered athletes and Bike Card holders, and includes the usual age and category divisions typical of amateur mountain bike competitions. The meeting point is set at the headquarters in the center of Salussola, with license checks and registration in the early morning and a late morning start.

Salussola and the surrounding area

Situated between the Vercelli plains and the first slopes of the Biella area, Salussola offers an ideal setting for off-road racing: historic villages, rice fields, woods, and a network of trails highly appreciated by cyclists. The race day is also a community celebration, involving local associations and creating the convivial atmosphere typical of provincial sporting events in Piedmont.
