A gravel bike ride through the glacial lakes and medieval castles of the Canavese region
The Gravel Lakes and Castles of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre is a cycling rally dedicated to gravel bikes held in Albiano d'Ivrea, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, in the heart of the Canavese. The event starts from the Municipal Sports Centre on Via Vecchio Naviglio and leads participants along the white roads of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre, one of Europe's most significant glacial formations, sculpted by the ancient Balteo glacier.
The route winds through the glacial lakes and vineyards of the Canavese, touching upon some of the medieval castles that dot this corner of Piedmont. The white roads run partly along two historic routes of great charm: the Via Francigena and the Cammino di Oropa. Cycling through this scenery means crossing forests, morainic hills, and bodies of water, discovering a landscape suspended between sport and heritage.
The edition offers two tracks designed to satisfy both experienced cyclists and those who prefer a more relaxed ride:
Both tracks are designed for gravel bikes and consist largely of unpaved roads, perfect for exploring the Canavese territory.
The event is part of the Canavese Gravel Tour, a series of stages that promotes cycle tourism on the white roads of the Canavese. The event is organised by the Team Fuori Onda Bike, a local group dedicated to promoting cycling as a means of exploring the region. The event is open to all enthusiasts and represents an opportunity to experience autumn in Piedmont at a slow pace, amidst nature, gastronomy, and tradition.
For those who love gravel biking, Albiano d'Ivrea and the Morainic Amphitheatre offer ideal terrain: white roads, gentle climbs, and panoramic views stretching from the lakes to the Alps. A non-competitive event that focuses on conviviality and the pleasure of cycling in one of the most evocative areas of the province of Turin.
