La Prevostura MTB, the dean of Biella's granfondos

La Prevostura MTB is one of the most well-known and beloved mountain bike events on the Italian scene. Organized since 2001 by the ASD Amici MTB Lessona, the race takes place in the municipality of Lessona, in the Province of Biella, in the heart of Upper Piedmont. Reaching its 27th edition in 2026, it is now considered the dean of Piedmontese granfondos: a fixed appointment on the autumn calendar that gathers between 600 and 800 athletes from all over Italy every year.

Two routes through the vine-covered hills of the Biella area

The strength of La Prevostura lies in its technical and spectacular track, which winds through the famous vineyards of Lessona, forests, pastures, and ancient villages. The race offers two options:

• Competitive course: 48 km with 1,350 meters of elevation gain and gradients reaching 22%, characterized by continuous ups and downs rather than long climbs.
• Amateur course: 22 km, suitable for those looking for a more accessible experience while immersed in the same hilly scenery.

The track alternates between asphalt, dirt, single track, and clay, sandy, and gravel surfaces, with the most challenging sections near the Croce di Masserano and the Piane dam. The start and finish are located at the sports facilities of Lessona, in the Castello area, near the parish church.

The Gran Piemonte MTB Series circuit

In 2026, La Prevostura joins the new Gran Piemonte MTB Series circuit, representing its final stage. The circuit crosses four areas of excellence in the region — the UNESCO-listed Langhe, the Maritime Alps, the Olympic Mountains, and the Biella hills — bringing together four historic Piedmontese granfondos. La Prevostura, scheduled for October 4th, closes the season after the stages in Cossano Belbo, Limone Piemonte, and Sestriere.

An event rooted in the territory

Beyond the competition, La Prevostura is a celebration for the entire community of Lessona and the Biella area, showcasing a territory known for its DOC wines and hilly landscapes. Registrations are handled via the ENDU platform, while for the FCI competitive categories, registration on Fattore K is also required. The number of participants is capped at a maximum of 800 athletes across all categories.
