The OCR race featuring natural obstacles at Lake Molveno
The X-WARRIOR Natural Obstacle Race is one of the most fascinating obstacle course races (OCR) on the Italian and European scene. Every May, the small town of Molveno, in the province of Trento, becomes the stage for a challenge that combines nature running, trail running, and athletic tests of strength and endurance. The setting is the stunning Lake Molveno, frequently recognized as the most beautiful lake in Italy, nestled at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites on the Paganella Plateau.
What sets X-Warrior apart from the many OCR events born in recent years is its "Human vs Nature" philosophy: here, obstacles are not merely artificial structures, but are born from the environment itself. The routes wind through the crystal-clear waters of the lake, trails in beech and fir forests, logs, roots, rocks, and the steep slopes of the Trentino mountains, featuring passages suspended over water, climbs on natural rock faces, and crossings through dense vegetation.
The event offers three race formats designed to welcome both beginners and the most experienced athletes:
Each course can be tackled in competitive mode, with timing, judges, age-group rankings, and penalties for missed obstacles, or in non-competitive mode, where the shared experience matters more than the result and where helping others and skipping the most difficult obstacles is permitted.
X-Warrior is more than just a race: it is a true international gathering that brings athletes from over twenty countries to Molveno. The atmosphere is that of a grand sporting festival, with a colorful and energetic crowd culminating in a final barbecue, music, and the traditional dip in the lake's waters. Locally, the event involves hotels, hospitality businesses, and local activities, becoming a key appointment for the tourist season on the Paganella Plateau.
Organized by the A.S.D. XWARRIORS association, the event has grown to become the only Italian stage of the international OCR circuit and one of the most attended in Europe, confirming the Municipality of Molveno and the Trentino-Alto Adige region as premier destinations for outdoor sports lovers.
On Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, 2026, the X-WARRIOR Natural Obstacle Race returned to Molveno to celebrate its tenth edition, an important milestone for one of the most spectacular OCR races in Europe. On the shores of Lake Molveno, at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites, over 800 athletes from numerous countries gathered, with registrations sold out weeks in advance.
The program featured the proven three-course formula:
Among the new features of the edition, the introduction of the Bridge Hanger on the X-Lite course, a technical suspended test, and an even longer Tarzan Swing on the X-Full course. The dual competitive (with supplement) and non-competitive modes were confirmed.
The event, organized by A.S.D. XWARRIORS, confirmed itself as the only Italian stage of the international OCR circuit and a reference point for the outdoor season on the Paganella Plateau, in Trentino.
Saturday, May 16 — OCR X-LITE (approx. 7 km, 28 obstacles, 322 m elevation gain): morning registration, race briefing, and morning starts, with a final barbecue in the lake area.
Sunday, May 17 — OCR X-FULL (approx. 16 km, 36 obstacles, 862 m elevation gain): registration, briefing, and morning starts, followed by the closing barbecue.
OCR X-TITAN: combination of X-Lite and X-Full races over two consecutive days. For each course, it is possible to choose the competitive mode (with timing, judges, category rankings) or non-competitive mode.
Molveno is located on the Paganella Plateau, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). By car, it can be reached from the A22 Brenner motorway (exit San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona), continuing towards Val di Non and the Paganella. The nearest train station is in Trento, which is connected to Molveno by a scheduled bus service.
The races start and finish in the Lake Molveno area, along the shores and in the surrounding woods. The meeting point is located in the lakeside area.
Registration and the full regulations, including fees and categories, are available on the official website x-warriors.com. It is recommended to book accommodation in advance, as the event attracts thousands of participants and spectators.
