Autumn in the Pile Dwellings

A journey into the prehistory of the Giudicarie

Autumn in the Pile Dwellings is the festival that, during the most evocative season of the year, guides visitors through the wonders of prehistory at the Pile Dwelling Museum of Fiavè and the nearby Archeo Natura Park, in the municipality of Fiavè, Trentino-Alto Adige. The Fiavè pile-dwelling site is one of the most significant in Europe and has been part of the "Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps" UNESCO World Heritage list since 2011.

Workshops, walks, and performances

The event, organised by the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and Activities of the Autonomous Province of Trento, offers a calendar of events specifically designed for families. Highlights that return year after year include:

• Family workshops dedicated to prehistoric recipes and flavours, rediscovering the foods and techniques of the ancient pile dwellers;
• Archaeological walks guided from the Museum to the Archeo Natura Park, exploring the plants gathered and used since prehistoric times for medicine, food, and daily life;
• Readings and workshops for children, often part of the Kid Pass Days, in collaboration with the Giudicarie Esteriori Valley library;
• Evening shows combining storytelling and art, such as sand art performances that bridge the gap between the past and the present.

The Archeo Natura Park

The heart of the festival is the Archeo Natura Park, an immersive area where full-scale reconstructions of pile dwellings stand on the shores of the Fiavè biotope. Here, visitors can walk among the huts, observe the tools, and gain a deeper understanding of how the Bronze Age communities lived thousands of years ago.

With paid entry for workshops and several free events, Autumn in the Pile Dwellings is a unique opportunity to experience Trentino's archaeological heritage in an active and engaging way, celebrating one of the most precious treasures of the Giudicarie and the entire Alpine region.
