The Sommernachtskonzert — affectionately called "Woche toaln" in the local dialect — is a staple of the summer season in Villandro/Villanders, a mountain village in the Eisacktal valley in the autonomous province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol. Every Wednesday evening, from late July to the end of August, the village's covered festival square transforms into an open-air stage where the sounds of traditional Tyrolean music and South Tyrolean brass band culture resonate.

Who organizes it

The event is promoted by the Volkstanzgruppe Villanders, the local folk dance group, in collaboration with the tourist cooperative of Chiusa, Barbiano, Velturno, and Villandro. It is an event deeply rooted in the community life of the municipality of Villandro: the group's volunteers manage the hospitality, catering, and the atmosphere of the evenings.

A journey into South Tyrolean folk music

Each evening is dedicated to a different musical ensemble from the region. Brass bands (Musikkapellen) from neighboring villages, Bohemian music groups, and small wind ensembles take turns, offering a program that celebrates the folk and concert repertoire of the Alpine area. The audience, seated at tables under the square's canopy, can enjoy the music sheltered from the elements in an informal and festive setting.

Local specialties are a must: the evenings are accompanied by sweet Villanderer Krapfen, Schüttelbrot (the typical crispy South Tyrolean bread), and Kaminwurzen, the savory smoked mountain sausages.
