About Konzerte Kommende Lengmoos

The Konzerte in der Kommende Lengmoos festival brings live music, art, and literature into the historic halls of the Longomoso Commandery (Kommende Lengmoos), an ancient seat of the Teutonic Order on the Renon (Ritten) plateau in the province of Bolzano. Every year, from February to October, the Kuratorium Kommende Lengmoos presents a season of classical, folk, and contemporary music concerts, concert readings, and art exhibitions within a 17th-century architectural setting, just steps away from the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta.

A musical salon in the ancient Teutonic Order Commandery

The Konzerte in der Kommende Lengmoos festival takes place within the historic rooms of the Longomoso Commandery (in German Kommende Lengmoos), in the municipality of Renon/Ritten, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). It is one of the most refined cultural offerings on the Renon plateau: a season that weaves together live music, readings, and art exhibitions in a setting of great charm, featuring the Commandery hall with its period ceilings and tiled stoves.

The Commandery: a thousand years of history on the plateau

The Kommende Lengmoos has roots dating back to the Middle Ages. Before 1211, a hospice already existed along the so-called "Emperor's Road," the stretch of the Brenner route that climbed the Renon plateau when the Isarco gorge was impassable. From 1235, the hospice passed to the Teutonic Order (Deutscher Orden), which established a Commandery there with important assistance and lodging functions for travelers and pilgrims. The current building dates back to approximately 1625 and preserves beautifully furnished state rooms. Today, the Commandery, adjacent to the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, is the main cultural space in the municipality of Renon.

The season: concerts, readings, and exhibitions

The Kuratorium Kommende Lengmoos, the cultural association that has enlivened this site since 1989, organizes a rich and varied season every year. The calendar covers diverse genres: classical and baroque music, early music, Alpine and South Tyrolean folk, singer-songwriter music, and contemporary music. There are also concert readings, where words and instruments engage in dialogue, and a concert for children designed for families.

  • Concerts by ensembles and chamber groups in the historic Commandery hall
  • Concert readings and thematic programs dedicated to authors and composers
  • Free-entry art exhibitions set up within the Commandery spaces
  • A concert dedicated to children

An experience to live on the Renon

Attending a concert in the Longomoso Commandery means combining music appreciation with the discovery of a place steeped in history, in a quiet corner of the Renon plateau reachable from Bolzano via the historic cable car and the Renon narrow-gauge railway. The festival is a staple for music lovers and those who appreciate the blend of heritage and live culture in South Tyrol.
