The great food and wine tasting in the heart of Romagna's balcony
Vini e Sapori in Strada is the food and wine event that every year, at the beginning of summer, enlivens the historic center of Bertinoro, in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. Known as the "balcony of Romagna" for the panorama that opens from its hills, Bertinoro has been the village of hospitality for centuries, symbolized by the famous Column of Rings: a heritage that can still be felt today in its squares and cellars.
The heart of the event is Piazza della Libertà, which for one evening transforms into a large open-air wine shop. Along the tasting counters, visitors meet the producers belonging to the Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli di Forlì e Cesena, who offer the signature wines of this territory: from Sangiovese di Romagna to Albana, the first Italian white wine to achieve DOCG status. Accompanying the glasses are typical products and food stands curated by local realities and the Bertinoro Events and Twinning Committee.
The evening's format involves purchasing a tasting kit including a glass, a lanyard, and tokens to be spent at the various counters. Alongside free tastings, there is a masterclass led by AIS Romagna sommeliers and extra virgin olive oil experts, a journey to discover the excellences of the Romagna hills up close. It's an opportunity to learn to recognize grape varieties, aromas, and pairings, in direct dialogue with those who produce the wine.
Vini e Sapori in Strada is not just about tasting: the evening is accompanied by live music and is part of the broader program of Hit's Summer nei Borghi e Rocche di Romagna and the Pink Night weekend, the New Year's Eve of the Romagna summer. Between swing and jazz concerts and musical walks through the village streets, food and wine merge with entertainment, offering one of the most evocative evenings of early summer in the hills of Forlì and Cesena.
Participating in Vini e Sapori in Strada also means discovering Bertinoro: the Rocca (fortress), the Cathedral, the medieval alleys, and the panoramas that range from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea. An event that combines taste, tradition, and hospitality, true to the hospitable spirit that has made this Romagna village famous.
The food and wine evening kicks off at 7:00 PM in Piazza della Libertà, where wineries affiliated with the Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli di Forlì e Cesena offer their wines for tasting, alongside a food stand curated by local entities.
The event is part of the rich Hit's Summer program: musical offerings for the day include the Drinkin' Jazz Festival with the Power Band and Alessandro Lanzoni, the Jazzwalk at 5:30 PM starting from the Monumento del Vignaiuolo with stops in the urban wineries, and in the evening, the concert by the Francesca Tandoi Trio at 9:45 PM in the Corte della Rocca.
By car: Bertinoro is reachable from the A14 motorway, exit Forlì or Cesena, and then follow signs for the historic center. By train: the nearest station is Forlì or Cesena, connected by bus to the village. Reference airport: Bologna or Rimini.
A free shuttle service is available during the evening from the parking lots in via Badia and via Allende, recommended for comfortably reaching the historic center.
Access to the square is free. For tastings, a kit with a glass, lanyard, and tokens is purchased. The guided masterclass is by reservation by writing to [email protected].
It is advisable to arrive early and combine the visit with the discovery of the Rocca and the panoramas of the Romagna hills. Numerous restaurants in the village offer themed menus during the Pink Night weekend.
