Irpinian wine, traditional cuisine, and live music in the hamlet of Breccelle Fredane
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Just a few kilometers from Avellino, the town of Capriglia Irpina hosts the Wine Fredane Festival, a food and wine event entirely centered around local wine and regional specialties. The event takes place in the hamlet of Breccelle Fredane, a small rural district that transforms into a large open-air winery for the occasion: tasting stalls managed by industry professionals, food stands, craft markets, and a live music space bring the village to life throughout the event.
The format is the much-loved Campanian village festival that also serves as a quality showcase: you stroll between the stalls with a glass around your neck, taste wines, chat with producers, and sit down for dinner at communal tables. It is a simple and convivial way to understand why the province of Avellino is considered one of the most prestigious wine districts in Southern Italy.
The festival's common thread is the promotion of Irpinian excellence, with a special focus on the three denominations that have made this territory famous:
Alongside the most well-known denominations, there is also space for smaller producers and lesser-known areas of the region, brought by the winemakers participating in the event. Guided tastings, led by experts and sommeliers, allow visitors to delve into grape varieties, vintages, and pairings; meetings with producers are the perfect opportunity to hear the stories of the wineries and the work in the vineyards directly from those who do it.
The culinary offerings follow the Irpinian peasant tradition, with dishes designed to accompany the wines being tasted:
Each evening features its own musical program: ranging from folk rhythms to romantic harmonies, from dance music to jazz, with live concerts and traditional performances. Craft markets are set up around the tasting area, while games and entertainment are provided for children. There are also cultural visits to the village, allowing you to discover the small historic center of Capriglia Irpina before or after dinner.
Wine Fredane is not new: by 2017, the festival was already celebrating its sixth edition, spanning three evenings with over thirty wineries present, technical tastings curated by the ONAV delegation of Avellino, and free admission. Originally a summer event โ the first editions were held in July โ the festival later moved its calendar to the autumn: the 2025 edition took place on October 4th and 5th, in the heart of the harvest season, when the bond between the festival and the work in the vineyards is most evident.
Capriglia Irpina is a small town in the province of Avellino, in Campania, nestled in the hilly landscape of Irpinia. It is a land of vineyards, woods, and rural villages, a short distance from the provincial capital and the production areas of Greco di Tufo. For those visiting the area, the festival is also a great starting point for an itinerary through wineries, chestnut groves, and inland villages of Campania, far from the most beaten tourist paths of the coast.
At the moment, there are no official announcements regarding the dates of the Wine Fredane Festival 2026 in Capriglia Irpina, in the province of Avellino. The indication of October provided in this sheet is therefore purely indicative and is based on the period in which the previous edition took place (October 4th and 5th, 2025).
If the event is held again, it is reasonable to expect the well-established format: tasting stalls dedicated to Irpinian wines, guided tastings with sommeliers, meetings with producers, food stands with traditional peasant dishes, craft markets, and live music in the hamlet of Breccelle Fredane.
We will update this sheet as soon as the organizers release the final calendar and program.
