Three days of flavor, tradition, and folklore at La Cavaccia with the Contrada Burò
The Wine and Truffle Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Allumiere, a small town in Lazio nestled in the Tolfa Mountains, in the hinterland of the province of Rome. Established in the early 2000s by the Contrada Burò, the festival has become one of the most popular local fairs, drawing thousands of visitors each year to the La Cavaccia sports field, just outside the charming Allumiere beech forest.
The heart of the event is the local gastronomy. The stalls open every evening, offering a menu that celebrates truffles from the local woods, served in numerous specialties and accompanied by wines from the area, grilled meats, and traditional peasant dishes. The cuisine, prepared by the district volunteers, has always been one of the festival's greatest strengths: quality, generous portions, and affordable prices have built the event's reputation over the years.
Beyond the food, the Wine and Truffle Festival thrives on popular tradition and a strong sense of community. Among the most characteristic events are the three-rider donkey race, gymkhanas and equestrian games, truffle dog demonstrations, and above all, the district mini-palio, which recreates the spirit of the famous Allumiere Palio in miniature. Evenings come alive with live music, DJ sets, and performances under the stars, in a festive atmosphere that engages both adults and children.
An ancient mining village linked to alum extraction, Allumiere retains a strong community identity, defined by its districts and their sporting and playful rivalries. The Wine and Truffle Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover this authentic corner of Lazio, with its beech forests, views of the Tyrrhenian coast, and typical village hospitality. An event that blends food and wine, nature, and local culture just a few kilometers from Civitavecchia and the sea.
The festival traditionally takes place in late June, effectively inaugurating the summer season of local festivals. Admission to the area is free; table reservations are recommended for dinner. A perfect occasion to combine a day trip with the pleasure of good food in the greenery of the Tolfa Mountains.
From June 26 to 28, 2026, the Contrada Burò hosted the 23rd edition of the Wine and Truffle Festival at La Cavaccia in Allumiere, confirming the event as one of the most beloved of the summer in the Tolfa Mountains. The three-day event featured local truffles, regional wines, grilled meats, and traditional peasant dishes served at the food stalls.
The gastronomic program was accompanied by the most characteristic events of Allumiere folklore: gymkhanas and equestrian games, the three-rider donkey race, truffle dog demonstrations, and the district mini-palio. The evenings featured music and entertainment, with DJ sets and the grand gala dance under the stars.
