The great wildlife photography exhibition from London's Natural History Museum, at Forte di Bard
Forte di Bard, in the Aosta Valley, has for years been one of the Italian stops for Wildlife Photographer of the Year, the most authoritative international wildlife photography exhibition. The showcase is promoted by the Natural History Museum of London, which has organised the eponymous competition since 1965, considered the most important of its kind in the world.
On display are the winning and finalist photographs from the competition: shots that reveal rarely observable animal behaviours, extraordinary species, and a wide range of natural environments, from the ocean depths to Alpine peaks. Each edition receives tens of thousands of entries from over a hundred countries, selected by an international jury.
Set up in the exhibition spaces of the fortress, the exhibition offers visitors from the Municipality of Bard and those travelling through the Aosta Valley a unique opportunity to reflect on the beauty and fragility of the natural world, in a captivating dialogue between the 19th-century military architecture of the Fort and the images of contemporary wilderness.
The 61st edition of Wildlife Photographer of the Year is on display at Forte di Bard from March 21 to July 12, 2026. The exhibition, promoted by the Natural History Museum of London, features the most extraordinary images selected from over 60,000 entries from 113 countries.
Among the award-winning shots are "Ghost Town Visitor" by Wim van den Heever (South Africa), the overall winner, and "After the Destruction" by young Italian photographer Andrea Dominizi, awarded in the Young Photographer category. The works reveal rarely observable animal behaviours, species, and natural environments from all over the world.
By car: A5 motorway, Pont-Saint-Martin or Verrès exit, then SS26 state road to Bard. The Fort has parking facilities and panoramic lifts.
Indicative hours: Tuesday-Friday 10:00 AM-6:00 PM; Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays 10:00 AM-7:00 PM; Monday closed. Tickets: €15 full price, €12 reduced (over 65s and 19-25 year olds), free for under 18s. Information: +39 0125 833811, [email protected].
