The music refinement week of the Regina Margherita Philharmonic, in the heart of the Lys Valley
In Gaby, a Walser-speaking municipality nestled in the lower Lys Valley, in the province and Region of Valle d'Aosta, music is not just any pastime: it's a piece of collective identity. This is demonstrated by the Regina Margherita Philharmonic Society, a band founded in 1922 and named after the Queen of Italy who loved these valleys so much, which has been organizing Musicantando, the village's musical summer, for over twenty years.
This is not a simple festival of concerts, but a real musical refinement workshop open to all. For a week, usually in the first days of July, Gaby welcomes students of all ages and levels who attend individual and group lessons led by qualified teachers.
The days follow an intense rhythm: lessons in the morning from 10 am to 1 pm, lunch break, and resumption in the afternoon from 2 pm to 5 pm. At the end of the week, students perform in public concerts that liven up the village and involve the community.
Musicantando is much more than a course: it's Gaby's way of passing on its passion for brass bands to new generations, an opportunity to discover the charm of the Aosta Valley mountains through music, and to experience the life of a small Walser village from the inside.
In 2026, Musicantando returns to Gaby with its tried-and-tested formula: a week of musical workshops for students of all ages and levels, from introductory workshops for children to instrumental courses for more experienced players. The Regina Margherita Philharmonic Society coordinates teachers and activities, with lessons spread throughout the day and the usual public concerts to close the event.
The detailed schedule for the 2026 edition and the updated regulations will be published by the Regina Margherita Philharmonic Society on the official website in the preceding months. The usual structure of the week includes:
