The literary festival in the shadow of Issogne Castle
In Issogne, a small municipality in the lower Aosta Valley overlooking the Dora Baltea river, the renowned fifteenth-century castle provides the setting for Château Livres, the book festival that annually draws readers, writers, and the curious within the manor's walls and into the village's main square. Born to promote knowledge of the lower valley's territory through literature, the event has successfully extended beyond regional borders thanks to the appreciation of both the public and critics.
The program unfolds between the Pomegranate Hall, within the castle complex, and the churchyard in the square. Various authors are invited to present their works and engage in dialogue with readers, while thematic conferences offer the opportunity to reflect together on current affairs, history, and culture. The days are punctuated by musical interludes, weaving words and notes together in a cozy and convivial atmosphere.
Among the most popular events is the second-hand and antique book market, set up on Saturdays and Sundays: stalls with rare volumes, vintage editions, and bargains for enthusiasts, who can browse and buy while strolling through the village.
Organized by the Municipal Library of Issogne along with the Luci di Ivrea Association and Edizioni Pedrini of Pont-Saint-Martin, Château Livres has become one of the reference cultural events of the Aosta Valley summer, successfully combining the magic of a historic location with the pleasure of reading and meeting people.
From June 23 to 25, 2026, Issogne Castle will host a new edition of Château Livres. The formula that has led to the festival's success is confirmed: book presentations with authors, conferences on current and cultural topics, and musical moments in the Pomegranate Hall and on the church square. The second-hand and antique book market also returns on the weekend, offering an opportunity to find rare editions and vintage volumes.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including guest authors and the schedule for individual events, will be announced by the Municipal Library of Issogne and the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
