The Bard Fortress, an imposing fortified complex rebuilt in the 19th century by the House of Savoy at the entrance to the Aosta Valley, is now one of the region's most vibrant cultural hubs. Every summer, its Piazza d'Armi — the large open space enclosed by the walls — hosts the Summer at the Bard Fortress festival, a packed schedule of concerts, recitals, and shows that attracts audiences from across Northwest Italy.
Great Names of Italian Music
Over the years, the festival has hosted some of the biggest stars of Italian singer-songwriter and pop music. The program features evening concerts under the stars, theatrical performances, one-man shows, and events designed for families. The setting is the unforgettable Piazza d'Armi, surrounded by ramparts and galleries, with the peaks of the Aosta Valley as a backdrop.
More Than Just Music
Alongside concerts, the Fortress's summer program includes comedy shows, theatrical recitals, and meetings with writers and cultural personalities, as well as the permanent and temporary exhibitions within the museum complex. From June to September, the Fortress remains a place where cultural offerings never cease.
Bard, the Village at the Foot of the Fortress
The small Municipality of Bard, in the Aosta Valley, is one of the region's most charming villages: a maze of medieval alleys, stone houses, and Gothic windows, all dominated by the imposing Fortress. The summer festival is an opportunity to discover, in a single visit, the historical heritage of the village and the contemporary programming of the fortress.

The Summer at the Bard Fortress 2026 festival animates the Piazza d'Armi throughout July with a calendar featuring major Italian music artists, comedy, and author-driven theater. It kicks off on July 4th with a concert by Arisa and concludes on July 31st with a theatrical monologue by Paolo Crepet. The season's highlights also include Antonello Venditti, Daniele Silvestri, Angelo Branduardi, and Niccolò Fabi, as well as the unique sunrise concert experience by Cosmo.

Getting Here
By car: Take the A5 Turin-Aosta highway, exit at Pont-Saint-Martin or Verrès, then follow the SS26 state road. The Fortress has parking facilities and panoramic elevators connecting the village to the various levels of the fortress.
