The mid-August gastronomic feast in the 'Orange Flag' village of Rocchetta Sant'Antonio
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year in mid-August, the small village of Rocchetta Sant'Antonio in the province of Foggia comes alive for one of its most anticipated events: the Wild Boar Festival. The celebration takes place in Piazza Maria Teresa Di Lascia, in the heart of the historic center, at the foot of the majestic Castello d'Aquino. It transforms a warm summer evening into a moment of conviviality that brings together locals and those returning home for the holidays.
The festival was born as a tribute to a product deeply rooted in the territory: the wild boar that populates the local woods, particularly the Bosco Difesa–Serra Fontana, an area rich in water and wildlife surrounding the town. In the kitchen, volunteers prepare traditional Rocchetta recipes:
Preparation and service are handled by local associations and their volunteers, in a format that blends popular cuisine with a strong sense of community.
The Wild Boar Festival is about more than just food. The evening, which typically kicks off around 9:00 PM, continues with dancing, music, and folk songs that enliven the square until late. It is a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the folklore of the Capitanata region and experience the authentic atmosphere of a village that has carefully preserved its traditions.
Rocchetta Sant'Antonio has been awarded the Orange Flag (Bandiera Arancione) by the Italian Touring Club, a recognition reserved for small inland towns of tourism and environmental excellence. Dominated by the Castello d'Aquino—built in 1507 on a design attributed to Francesco di Giorgio Martini and recognizable by its ship-bow-shaped tower—the village is the final stretch of the Foggia province on the border between Puglia, Campania, and Basilicata. Visiting Rocchetta during the festival means combining the pleasure of fine dining with the discovery of medieval alleys, historic fountains, and panoramic views of the Daunia landscape.
The festival is part of a rich summer calendar that also includes the Fried Pizza Festival and the Wild Asparagus Festival, a testament to a community that makes its cuisine a reason for gathering and pride.
