A festival dedicated to the black pig of the Daunian Mountains

The Dauno Black Pig Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the summer in Deliceto, a small town in the province of Foggia nestled in the Daunian Subappennino, in Apulia. The event was created to showcase the native black pig, a breed deeply linked to the Daunian Mountains and raised in semi-wild conditions in the inland woods and pastures: a flavorful, high-quality meat that forms the heart of the festival's cured meats.

Deliceto, a village in the Daunian Subappennino

Often confused with the Gargano by online calendars, Deliceto is actually located in the Daunian Subappennino, the hilly and mountainous ridge marking the western border of Apulia. It is a village with ancient farming and pastoral traditions, dominated by its Norman-Swabian castle and surrounded by oak forests and olive groves: a landscape that perfectly explains the deep bond between the community and black pig farming. The festival is part of the Deliceto summer calendar, enlivening August evenings alongside other local events.

What to eat

The absolute star is the black pig, served in all its traditional cured and cooked forms. Along the streets and squares of the center, the Pro Loco stalls offer tastings of:

• Sausages, grilled or prepared in various ways;
• Aged prosciutto and capocollo;
• Other cured meats and black pig specialties;
• Typical Apulian and Daunian dishes, prepared with local ingredients.

Music, folklore, and tradition

Alongside the food, there is a program of popular entertainment: folk music concerts and brass bands, traditional Apulian dances and shows, a local craft market, and, to close the evening, fireworks. There are also attractions for children, making the festival a perfect event for the whole family.

The organization is managed by the Pro Loco "Amedeo Iossa" of Deliceto, a historic local association committed for decades to promoting the area and its traditions. Thanks to the work of volunteers, the Dauno Black Pig Festival has become an opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of the Subappennino and experience the convivial atmosphere of Apulian village festivals.
