The mid-August feast in the heart of the Monti Dauni hills
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Rocco Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Deliceto, a village perched at 575 meters in the heart of the Monti Dauni, in the province of Foggia (Apulia). Every year, around August 16th, the town celebrates the pilgrim saint with a festival that combines religious observance with popular, convivial traditions, drawing entire families to the square.
San Rocco in Deliceto is, above all, the festival of homecoming: it falls in the heart of August, when Deliceto's emigrants, scattered across Italy and abroad, return to the village for their summer holidays. The streets of the historic center, which remain quiet during the winter months, come alive once again with familiar faces, local dialects, and shared memories. For many, it is the perfect occasion to visit relatives and reconnect with their roots, giving the festival an emotional significance that transcends the religious celebration.
The most solemn moment is the procession, which departs from the parish church dedicated to San Rocco and winds through the narrow streets of the village, accompanied by a marching band and the faithful. Festive lights illuminate the center, while in the evening, the celebration moves to the main square with concerts, shows, and stalls. The festivities conclude with traditional fireworks, lighting up the sky over the Daunian Subappennino.
The San Rocco Festival is part of the rich summer calendar of the Municipality of Deliceto, the "Deliceto Summer" program, which offers food festivals, concerts, shows, and cultural events between late July and late August. Other events, from live music to entertainment, revolve around the patronal date, making mid-August the most vibrant time of the year for this Daunian village.
Visitors arriving in Deliceto for San Rocco will find much more than just a festival: a medieval historic center dominated by a Norman castle, the Convent of Sant'Antonio, and a landscape of rolling hills between the Tavoliere delle Puglie and the Apennines. The festival is the ideal opportunity to discover one of the most characteristic villages of the Monti Dauni, far from mass tourism circuits and still deeply tied to its traditions.
The Municipality of Deliceto has not yet published the official dates and program for the 2026 San Rocco Festival. Based on previous editions, the festivities should center around August 16th, featuring the procession from the parish church, the marching band, evening concerts, and fireworks. The detailed calendar will be released by the Municipality and the parish in the days leading up to the event, as part of the "Deliceto Summer" program.
