Sport takes over the streets of Messina's city centre

The White Night of Sport is the major event through which the Municipality of Messina brings sport directly to the people, along the pedestrian area of Viale San Martino and the main streets of the city centre. For an entire day that extends late into the evening, stands, platforms, and demonstration areas occupy both lanes of the large pedestrian artery, turning the city's living room into a continuous circuit of sports to discover and try out.
The core of the event is the extraordinary variety of sports disciplines involved: from the most popular to the lesser-known, each with its own space for exhibitions, demonstrations, and open trials. Local sports clubs, federations, and amateur associations provide the public with athletes, instructors, and equipment, allowing children, teenagers, and adults to get closer to sports they might otherwise never have the chance to experience.
The event, promoted by the Municipality of Messina with the contribution of the special company Messina Social City and the collaboration of the local sports world, was created with the goal of promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles as a moment of gathering and social growth. Particular attention is paid to inclusion, with the involvement of clubs and athletes from Paralympic disciplines alongside Olympic ones.
Included in the calendar of Christmas events, the White Night of Sport is now a highly anticipated date for the people of Messina, capable of uniting the city in a collective experience of participation, energy, and shared values. The setting is the Province of Messina, in Sicily, where the festival enlivens the historic centre, drawing families and enthusiasts along the entire axis of Viale San Martino up to Piazza Cairoli.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the White Night of Sport have not yet been announced by the Municipality of Messina. Based on previous years, the event usually takes place in December, along the Viale San Martino pedestrian area, as part of the city's Christmas events calendar. The program featuring disciplines, times, and exhibitions will be published by the municipal administration closer to the event.
The event takes place along the pedestrian area of Viale San Martino and the streets of Messina's centre (between Piazza Cairoli and Via XXVII Luglio), in the heart of the city.
Messina is easily accessible by train (Messina Centrale station, just a short walk from Viale San Martino), by car via the A20 and A18 motorways, and by sea via the Strait ferry connections. The city centre is entirely walkable.
Participation in the activities along the pedestrian area is free and open to everyone.
Wear comfortable clothing so you can try out the various disciplines and arrive in the afternoon to enjoy the event until the evening.
