The running race on the Strait, between Ganzirri and Torre Faro in Messina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Capo Peloro 10K – Luigi Cacopardi Trophy is one of the most cherished running events in Messina, the capital of the Metropolitan City of the same name in Sicily. It takes place every year in early December in the unique setting of the Capo Peloro lagoon reserve, the extreme north-eastern tip of the island where the Tyrrhenian Sea meets the Ionian, nestled between the historic seaside villages of Ganzirri and Torre Faro.
The event is organized by the A.S.D. Torre Bianca association, in collaboration with the CSEN sports promotion body and under the patronage of the Municipality of Messina. The race is part of the FIDAL calendar and the regional Sicily Bronze Races road circuit, often serving as the season's final stage.
The race is named after Luigi Cacopardi, a passionate sports enthusiast from Messina who served as a torchbearer during the 1960 Rome Olympics. The trophy, promoted by the Cacopardi family, preserves his memory and draws hundreds of participants to the lagoon shores each year.
The route winds through the streets of the lagoon village and is perfect for spectators. Alongside the 10km competitive race, the event offers initiatives designed to involve the entire community: the "Corri con l'Evemero" youth race, linked to the "Evemero da Messina" Comprehensive Institute, and a guided urban trek (in collaboration with "Camminare i Peloritani") to discover the seaside village, the traditional pilùni, and the naturalistic area of the Ganzirri and Pantano Piccolo lagoons.
Held in early December, the Capo Peloro 10K closes the Messina running season in one of the most evocative places in the province: the Strait, with views of the Calabrian coast, the Torre Faro lighthouse, and the traditional mussel and clam farms that define the lagoon. An occasion that blends sport, landscape, and the identity of the Peloritani territory.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Capo Peloro 10K – Luigi Cacopardi Trophy have not yet been announced by A.S.D. Torre Bianca. Based on previous editions, the race is usually held in early December in the villages of Ganzirri and Torre Faro, in Messina, and is part of the Sicily Bronze Races regional circuit. The detailed program and registration form will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
