Festive wooden chalets in the heart of the Strait city

During the holiday season, the center of Messina, the capital of its province in Sicily, gets dressed up for the festivities with its traditional Christmas markets. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Messina, features dozens of wooden chalets spread across the most vibrant spots of the Strait city, creating a large Christmas village that remains lively until Epiphany.
The heart of the event is Piazza Cairoli, along the Viale San Martino pedestrian area, where about forty chalets are set up: some dedicated to food and traditional sweets, others reserved for local associations, and the majority for hobbyists and artisans showcasing their products at affordable prices. The square also hosts a stage with entertainment, music, magic shows, Christmas parades, and games for children.
The second location stretches along Via Laudamo, near the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele, with the "Christmas at the Theatre" initiative: around fifty chalets offer crafts, local products, and handmade gifts, accompanied by workshops and dedicated gastronomic spaces.
More than just a fair, the markets are part of a rich program of Christmas events that the Municipality of Messina spreads throughout the city, from festive lights and parades to holiday concerts. Admission to the markets is free, and the atmosphere, filled with lights and scents, accompanies locals and visitors throughout the weeks from the Immaculate Conception to Epiphany.
The 2026 edition of the Messina Christmas markets has not yet been officially confirmed: at the moment, no dates or programs are available. The event takes place every year during the holiday season, with traditional chalets between Piazza Cairoli and Via Laudamo. Updates will be published on the official channels of the Municipality of Messina.
