A day among wheat and alpine pastures in Pianfei

In the town of Pianfei, lying at the foot of the Bisalta in the Province of Cuneo, the Wheat and Transhumance Festival is one of the most cherished events of the Monregalese summer. Promoted by the Pro Loco Pianfei, the event takes place at the Via Bisalta sports field and celebrates the town's deep bond with its land and the traditions of Piedmontese rural civilization.

Transhumance and wheat threshing

The two symbolic highlights of the day are the very heart of the festival. The transhumance re-enacts the ancient journey of herds toward alpine pastures: a picturesque procession of cattle that crosses the festival grounds, recalling the rhythms of rural life from days gone by. Alongside this, live wheat threshing allows visitors to observe the techniques and machines once used to process grain, bringing the gestures and crafts of the past back to life.

The Wheat Festival is designed for all ages. Throughout the event area, you will find:

Part of the San Giovanni Fair

The Wheat Festival traditionally opens the San Giovanni Fair and the "Giugno Insieme a Pianfei" calendar, which enlivens the town for over two weeks with events, dance evenings, and the famous San Giovanni Polenta Feast. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Province of Cuneo, where the traditions of the mountains and the Cuneo plains meet.
