About Voci di Periferia

Voci di Periferia – Nuove Consonanze is a traveling music festival promoted by the MusicaMente association, bringing world-class music to the suburbs and small towns of the Metropolitan City of Palermo. From June 12 to October 29, 2026, seven free events will enliven churches, squares, and auditoriums in Palermo, Gangi, Baucina, and Mondello, blending early and baroque music, contemporary repertoire, musical theater, and storytelling. A project supported by the Ministry of Culture, making Sicily a laboratory for accessible, widespread culture.

A festival bringing music to the suburbs

Voci di Periferia – Nuove Consonanze is a traveling music festival promoted by the MusicaMente Association of Palermo and realized with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture as part of the National Performing Arts Fund. The idea behind it is both simple and ambitious: to bring high-quality music where it usually does not reach—into urban peripheries and small inland towns, places rich in memories, languages, and identities that often escape official narratives.

Seven events across Palermo, Gangi, Baucina, and Mondello

The 2026 edition runs from June 12 to October 29 with seven free-admission events distributed between the capital and several centers of the Metropolitan City. Historic churches, squares, and auditoriums are transformed into meeting and listening spaces: from the Church of San Giovanni dei Lebbrosi in Palermo to the Circolo Mazzini and Piazza del Popolo in Gangi, from the Church of the Immaculate in Baucina to the Church of Maria Santissima Assunta in Valdesi, Mondello.

A repertoire spanning the centuries

The program weaves together different genres and languages. It features early and baroque music, with the inaugural concert "Affetti in movimento" performed by Sara Bagnati on violin and viola and Marco Lo Cicero on viola da gamba; the great cello tradition, from Johann Sebastian Bach to Giovanni Sollima, interpreted by Andrea Rigano; and the dialogue between baroque and contemporary music by the Arianna Art Ensemble with "Armonie erranti." It also includes musical theater, with a tribute to Milva titled "da Berlino a Broadway," and projects involving local school students.

  • Early and baroque music performed on period instruments
  • Contemporary repertoire and new consonances between different eras
  • Musical theater and storytelling in contact with local communities
  • Participatory projects with local schools and youth

Widespread culture in the heart of Sicily

More than just a concert series, Voci di Periferia is a cultural enhancement project for the territory. By bringing music into the churches of Palermo's historic center as well as the Madonie villages like Gangi, the festival restores centrality to peripheral places and communities, building a bridge between historical heritage, local identity, and contemporary musical creation. An event that confirms the vitality of the cultural scene in the Municipality of Palermo and the Sicilian Region, and the power of music to act as a tool for cohesion and discovery of the territory.
