About Valsusa Filmfest

The Valsusa Filmfest is a community-driven film and cultural festival that has been bringing the Susa Valley to life for thirty years with screenings, competitions, and discussions focused on cinema, historical memory, the environment, and mountain life. The Avigliana leg, hosted at the Teatro Fassino, is one of the most anticipated stops on this traveling festival that spans eight valley municipalities and Turin. It is a unique opportunity to experience great independent cinema and musical events in the heart of Avigliana, in the province of Turin.

Valsusa Filmfest: Thirty Years of Community Cinema

The Valsusa Filmfest is one of the longest-running and most deeply rooted film events in Piedmont. Founded in 1996, it has grown into a true permanent laboratory for culture, memory, and civic engagement. Organized by the Valsusa Filmfest Association based in Condove, the festival is a traveling showcase that, year after year, involves various municipalities in the Susa Valley and the city of Turin. The 30th edition, scheduled from March 28 to May 24, 2026, is dedicated to the singer-songwriter and poet Fabrizio De André and spans eight valley towns: Almese, Avigliana, Caprie, Chianocco, Condove, Oulx, San Giorio, and Villar Focchiardo, in addition to the regional capital.

The Avigliana Stop at Teatro Fassino

In Avigliana, in the province of Turin, the festival stops at the Teatro Fassino, a historic venue in the town overlooking its famous lakes. Here, the program alternates between film competition screenings, meetings with authors, and high-profile event nights, staying true to the festival's spirit of blending the big screen with auteur music and civic commitment.

Cinema, Environment, and Historical Memory

The Valsusa Filmfest is more than just a film festival: it is a cultural project revolving around themes dear to the region, from the historical memory of the Resistance to the environment, from mountain life to social inclusion. The film competition, which attracts over 150 entries from Italy and abroad each year, is divided into several thematic sections, including Short Films, Making Memory, The Alps, Green Screen, and Music Videos, with cash prizes for the winners.

A Widespread Festival in the Heart of the Susa Valley

The traveling format is the festival's hallmark: by bringing cinema into theaters, civic halls, and community spaces in small alpine towns, the Valsusa Filmfest connects local audiences with cinematic culture and builds a bridge between the valleys and Turin. For Avigliana, a tourist crossroads between the Turin plains and the valley entrance, the stop at Teatro Fassino represents a cultural highlight that promotes both the town and the entire metropolitan area.

Valsusa Filmfest — edition 2026

The Avigliana leg of the 30th Valsusa Filmfest, dedicated to Fabrizio De André, brought a high-profile musical event to the Teatro Fassino as part of the festival's widespread program in the Susa Valley.

For the 30th edition of the Valsusa Filmfest, dedicated to Fabrizio De André, the Avigliana stop hosted one of the most heartfelt event nights of the entire festival at the Teatro Fassino on Friday, May 22, 2026. The appointment was part of the traveling schedule that, from March 28 to May 24, 2026, touched eight municipalities in the Susa Valley and Turin, intertwining the film competition with auteur music and cultural meetings.
