The premier festival for auteur and independent cinema in Turin
The Turin Film Festival (TFF) is one of the most anticipated cultural events in the city of Turin and the entire Piedmont region. Established in 1982 as the International Festival of Young Cinema by critic Gianni Rondolino, it has grown to become the second most important film event in Italy after the Venice Film Festival. Organized by the National Museum of Cinema in Turin, the festival has built its reputation on discovering new talent, exploring cinematic language, and championing independent film.
The 44th edition will run from November 24 to December 2, 2026, featuring nine days of screenings, meetings, and award ceremonies. Artistic direction is entrusted for the third consecutive year to Giulio Base. The opening ceremony will be held, as per tradition, at the prestigious Teatro Regio, while the heart of the screenings beats at the Cinema Massimo, the National Museum of Cinema's own theater, and other venues in the city center.
The 2026 edition revolves around the figure of Marilyn Monroe, celebrated with a major retrospective of 24 films. Alongside classics starring the diva, such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), Some Like It Hot (1959), and The Misfits (1961), the program offers fresh perspectives on the icon, from documentaries to contemporary reinterpretations like Andrew Dominik's Blonde, and even Pier Paolo Pasolini's La rabbia. It is a journey that explores Marilyn far beyond the star system, in dialogue with some of the greatest directors in film history.
The TFF maintains its historic structure with an international feature film competition dedicated to debut and sophomore works, accompanied by competitions for documentaries and short films, as well as in-depth sections, tributes, and lifetime achievement awards for major figures in world cinema. It is a festival of criticism and discovery, attentive to experimentation and cinema that looks toward the future of the medium.
For nine days, Turin transforms into the capital of auteur cinema, welcoming directors, actors, critics, and enthusiasts from all over the world. The festival is also a perfect opportunity to experience the Piedmontese capital in autumn, amidst the charm of its historic cafรฉs, arcades, and the Mole Antonelliana, which houses the Museum of Cinema.
