The short film and independent cinema festival of Pinerolo
The PiFF - Pinerolo Film Festival is a film event dedicated to short films and independent cinema, held in Pinerolo, a city in the province of Turin at the foot of the Piedmontese Alps. Created to give a voice to emerging talent and bring high-quality cultural programming to the city, the festival has established itself since its first edition as a benchmark for Italian and international shorts, with a special eye on the Piedmontese territory.
The structure of PiFF is divided into four thematic days, each dedicated to a specific competition section. The audience can follow a journey ranging from short films for children and teenagers to works addressing strong social and human issues, as well as productions made in Piedmont and works by authors affiliated with FEDIC (Italian Federation of Cineclubs). The final day is reserved for the screening of the finalists' trailers and the awards ceremony.
The festival offers a total prize pool of 1,000 euros, distributed among numerous awards: from the Social Cinema Award to the Young Cinema Award, the Cinema Piemonte prize, the FEDIC recognition, as well as the Audience Award and technical awards for directing, editing, cinematography, and music, in addition to prizes for the best Italian, foreign, and animated short film. The selection of works is managed through major international submission platforms such as FilmFreeway, FestHome, and ShortFilmDepot.
Promoted by the Wel Theater and Movie aps association with the patronage of the Municipality of Pinerolo, PiFF is much more than a series of screenings: it is a cultural project that involves local schools, promotes young actors and directors, and helps make Pinerolo a small hub for independent cinema in Piedmont. Screenings are held at the association's headquarters and in the city's cinemas, in an atmosphere of participation and exchange between authors and spectators.
The PiFF - Pinerolo Film Festival returns to Pinerolo from October 23 to 25, 2026 for its second edition, organized by the Wel Theater and Movie aps association with the patronage of the Municipality of Pinerolo. After the success of the debut, the organizers have announced some new features for 2026: concentrating the main events over the weekend to boost attendance, introducing a category for debut directors, and expanding the project into local schools.
The competition sections confirm the festival's identity: Italian and international short films, shorts made in Piedmont, works dedicated to social themes, a section for children and teenagers, and shorts by FEDIC authors. Submissions are open until June 30, 2026 via the FilmFreeway, FestHome, and ShortFilmDepot platforms.
The detailed program with finalist titles and screening times will be published by the organization after the selection process closes.
Pinerolo can be reached by car from the Turin ring road by following signs for Pinerolo (about 40 km from the regional capital). By train, the city is connected to Turin Porta Nuova via the regional rail service (Pinerolo station). The nearest airport is Turin-Caselle.
Screenings take place at the Wel Theater and Movie headquarters (Via Silvio Pellico 19) and in Pinerolo's cinemas.
Admission to screenings is paid, with affordable rates and passes available for the entire duration of the festival. Tickets can be purchased online on the official website pinerolofilmfestival.it.
