About Terra Madre Salone del Gusto

Terra Madre – Salone del Gusto is the world's most important international event dedicated to food, biodiversity, and food policy, organized by Slow Food in partnership with the City of Turin and the Piedmont Region. Every two years, the center of the Piedmontese capital transforms into a massive open-air market, brought to life by farmers, herders, chefs, and delegates from over 150 countries. Throughout historic squares and streets, the city hosts conferences, taste workshops, dining events, and the renowned Market featuring Slow Food Presidia from across the globe.

Terra Madre – Salone del Gusto, the global food event in Turin

Terra Madre – Salone del Gusto is the largest international event dedicated to good, clean, and fair food. Established in Turin in 1996 as Salone del Gusto and later joined by the Terra Madre network in 2012, the festival is promoted by Slow Food, the City of Turin, and the Piedmont Region. Each edition draws farmers, fishers, herders, chefs, activists, and delegates from over 150 countries to the Piedmontese capital, making the center of Turin the global capital of food biodiversity.

An open-air market in the heart of the city

Starting with the 2026 edition, the event moves out of the pavilions to spread across the historic streets and squares of the center of Turin, in Piedmont: Piazza San Carlo, Piazza Castello, Piazza Carlo Alberto, Via Roma, and Piazza Valdo Fusi become the stage for a grand Market featuring hundreds of Italian and international producers. Among the stalls, visitors can discover Slow Food Presidia, products from the Ark of Taste, and chefs from the Slow Food Alliance, in a journey that combines tasting, learning, and advocacy.

Program: workshops, conferences, and dining events

The program features Taste Workshops, conferences, debates on food policy, dining appointments with chefs and producers, sensory games, and educational activities for schools, with children involved in school gardens. At the heart of the event are the themes of biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and the right to good food for all.

  • Terra Madre Market: hundreds of exhibitors from Italy and the world
  • Taste Workshops: guided tastings of exceptional products
  • Conferences and debates: food policy and the environment
  • Slow Food Presidia and Ark of Taste: biodiversity to be saved

A network that speaks to the world

Alongside the main event, the program includes The Road to Terra Madre, an outreach initiative involving Turin, Piedmont, and hundreds of communities worldwide, and Terra Madre Off, featuring parties, book presentations, meetings, dinners, exhibitions, and guided tours throughout the city's neighborhoods. It is an experience that, every two years, makes Turin a meeting point for the cultures, territories, and gastronomic knowledge of the five continents.

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto — edition 2026

The 16th edition of Terra Madre – Salone del Gusto will be held in Turin from September 24 to 27, 2026, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Slow Food Italy. For the first time, the event will spread across the streets and squares of the city center, with biodiversity as wealth and a culture of peace at the heart of the program.
