The major international Slow Food event dedicated to good, clean, and fair food, in the heart of Turin
Terra Madre – Salone del Gusto is the largest international event dedicated to good, clean, and fair food. Established in Turin in 1996 as Salone del Gusto and later joined by the Terra Madre network in 2012, the festival is promoted by Slow Food, the City of Turin, and the Piedmont Region. Each edition draws farmers, fishers, herders, chefs, activists, and delegates from over 150 countries to the Piedmontese capital, making the center of Turin the global capital of food biodiversity.
Starting with the 2026 edition, the event moves out of the pavilions to spread across the historic streets and squares of the center of Turin, in Piedmont: Piazza San Carlo, Piazza Castello, Piazza Carlo Alberto, Via Roma, and Piazza Valdo Fusi become the stage for a grand Market featuring hundreds of Italian and international producers. Among the stalls, visitors can discover Slow Food Presidia, products from the Ark of Taste, and chefs from the Slow Food Alliance, in a journey that combines tasting, learning, and advocacy.
The program features Taste Workshops, conferences, debates on food policy, dining appointments with chefs and producers, sensory games, and educational activities for schools, with children involved in school gardens. At the heart of the event are the themes of biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and the right to good food for all.
Alongside the main event, the program includes The Road to Terra Madre, an outreach initiative involving Turin, Piedmont, and hundreds of communities worldwide, and Terra Madre Off, featuring parties, book presentations, meetings, dinners, exhibitions, and guided tours throughout the city's neighborhoods. It is an experience that, every two years, makes Turin a meeting point for the cultures, territories, and gastronomic knowledge of the five continents.
The 16th edition of Terra Madre – Salone del Gusto will take place in the center of Turin from September 24 to 27, 2026, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Slow Food Italy. The chosen theme is biodiversity as wealth and a culture of peace, against the homogenization of food. For the first time, the event leaves the pavilions to animate Piazza San Carlo, Piazza Castello, Piazza Carlo Alberto, Via Roma, and Piazza Valdo Fusi.
The program includes the grand Market with hundreds of producers from Italy and the world, Slow Food Presidia, the Ark of Taste, Taste Workshops, conferences, dining events, and activities for schools. The event is preceded by The Road to Terra Madre (September 1-20) and accompanied by Terra Madre Off (September 21-28) spread throughout the neighborhoods.
The detailed program with times and locations is published on the official website.
Terra Madre Salone del Gusto takes place in the center of Turin, easily accessible on foot from the Turin Porta Nuova and Turin Porta Susa train stations. By car, it is recommended to use city center parking facilities and public transport (metro, tram, and GTT buses). Turin-Caselle Airport is approximately 16 km from the city center.
Access to the Market and the squares is free; Taste Workshops and certain dining events require a paid ticket and reservation. Hours and tickets are published on the official website.
We recommend booking Taste Workshops well in advance as they are very popular, and planning a multi-day stay to fully experience the program and the Off events throughout the city.
