Valsesia Trout Festival

A festival at the foot of Monte Rosa

The Valsesia Trout Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in the municipality of Piode, a small mountain village in the upper Valsesia, in the Province of Vercelli, in the heart of Piedmont. At an altitude of about 750 meters, along the course of the Sesia river and in the shadow of the Monte Rosa massif, Piode owes its name to the historic quarries of stone slabs (the piode) used for centuries to cover the roofs of alpine houses. It is in this authentic setting that the Pro Loco of Piode organizes a festival every summer entirely dedicated to mountain trout, the iconic product of the clear Valsesian waters.

The star: Valsesia trout

Trout has always been linked to the territory: Valsesia boasts a long tradition of sport fishing, regulated by the Valsesian Sport Fishermen's Society, with renowned reserves that extend along the Sesia. During the festival, trout becomes the queen of the table, cooked according to local recipes and served under the marquee of the sports area. It is the ideal opportunity to savor a simple and genuine dish, a direct expression of the surrounding alpine environment.

The day's program

The event takes place at the Via Sorba sports area and offers a program designed for families:

• In the morning, around 9:30 AM, fishing for children, an unmissable moment that introduces the little ones to the world of fishing in a safe and fun context;
• At noon, the Valsesia trout lunch, served under the marquee and accompanied by live musical entertainment;
• Throughout the day, stalls with local products and crafts, inflatable games, and entertainment activities for children, in a lively village festival atmosphere.

More than just a gastronomic festival, the Piode celebration is an opportunity to experience the Piedmontese mountains in their most authentic dimension: the fresh air of the valleys, the warmth of the local community, and the conviviality typical of village feasts. Participants can combine the festival day with a walk along the Sesia or a hike in the surroundings, discovering the villages of Valsesia and the Monterosa area.
