A carnival celebration for all ages in the Town Hall square
In Val della Torre, a town of just under four thousand residents nestled in the Casternone Valley within the Metropolitan City of Turin, Carnival is one of the most cherished winter traditions. Rather than a large parade of floats like those in more famous Piedmontese cities, this is a community-focused event where children and families take center stage.
The gathering takes place in the Town Hall square, in the heart of the village, where locals of all ages arrive in costume in the early afternoon. The event is entirely free and is made possible through the collaboration of the Pro Loco of Val della Torre, the Municipal Administration, the Alpini group, and the AIB (Forest Firefighters) volunteers: a concrete example of how vibrant the local associations are in this corner of the Turin valleys.
The program is built around children's entertainment: bouncy castles, games of all kinds, music, baby dance, and activities fill the afternoon. There is always a show—a true highlight for the kids—and the ritual that traditionally closes the festival: the bonfire lit in the late afternoon, symbolizing the end of winter and the Carnival season.
As in any self-respecting local festival, gastronomy plays a leading role. Throughout the event, you can enjoy apple fritters, hot chocolate, and—for the adults—mulled wine, the spiced hot wine that warms up winter afternoons in the Piedmontese mountains.
The Val della Torre Carnival is held in the Town Hall square, easily accessible from Turin and the western suburbs. The date changes from year to year according to the Carnival calendar, but the festival always takes place on a Sunday afternoon. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled: it is recommended to check for updates on the Pro Loco of Val della Torre and Municipal Administration channels before traveling.
