The international literary festival of Cortina d'Ampezzo, between literature and the Dolomites
Una Montagna di Libri is the literary festival that has accompanied the seasons of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the province of Belluno, for over fifteen years. Founded in 2009 and directed by Francesco Chiamulera, the series of author encounters has become a benchmark for Italian culture, capable of bringing writers, journalists, scientists, and personalities from the world of sport and entertainment to the Dolomites.
The festival is divided into a rich summer edition (from July to September) and a winter session, with dozens of encounters hosted in the most evocative halls of the Ampezzo basin: the Alexander Girardi Hall, the Palazzo delle Poste, the Grand Hotel Savoia, and the Museo Zardini. Every year, the event attracts around 20,000 attendees.
Supported by the Municipality of Cortina and the Veneto Region, Una Montagna di Libri intertwines literature, current affairs, and reflection on the world of the mountains. In the years of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the festival has dedicated ample space to the theme of sport and Olympic values, confirming itself as one of the most vibrant cultural voices in the Alps.
The 34th edition of Una Montagna di Libri unfolds throughout 2026 with two major events: a winter session (February-March), linked to the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics, and the rich summer edition with over 40 events from July to September. The encounters are held at the Alexander Girardi Hall, Palazzo delle Poste, Grand Hotel Savoia, and Museo Zardini. For the Olympic year, the festival also presents the project "Parole degli Olimpionici" (Words of the Olympians), featuring video interviews with great sports champions.
The complete program with the guest calendar will be published progressively on the official website. Festival direction by Francesco Chiamulera.
Cortina d'Ampezzo is reachable by car via the SS51 Alemagna. The events are held in the town centre, just a short walk from each other.
Most events are free admission until seats are full. Full program, guests, and updated calendar on the official website unamontagnadilibri.it.
