The most beloved cycling granfondo in the Dolomites, across the passes of Alta Badia and Ampezzano
The Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel is much more than a cycling race: it's a celebration of sport and the mountains that attracts thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world every year. Founded in 1987 in Alta Badia, it is now among the most prestigious and sought-after granfondos on the international calendar, so much so that registration requests far exceed the available spots.
The event offers three routes that traverse the most iconic passes of the Dolomites, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site:
Cyclists will climb the Passo Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Giau, Falzarego, and Valparola. The start is in La Villa, Alta Badia, and the finish is in Corvara. The long route passes through Pocol di Cortina d'Ampezzo, where roads are closed to traffic during the race.
The Maratona unites the Ladin valleys of Alta Badia with the Ampezzano region and the province of Belluno, in Veneto, in an embrace between Trentino-Alto Adige and the Venetian Dolomites. In addition to the competition, the event promotes a social and environmental message each year, with a dedicated theme accompanying the edition.
The 39th edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel returns on Sunday, July 5, 2026, confirming its status as one of the most international and popular cycling events in Europe. For the 2026 edition, approximately 8,000 bibs were made available, out of over 32,000 requests received, four times the available spots. The start is scheduled for 6:30 AM from La Villa, Alta Badia, with the finish in Corvara.
Roads over the passes and the Pocol/Cortina section will be closed to traffic during the race. The detailed schedule of closure times and the race village are published on the official website.
Cortina d'Ampezzo and Alta Badia are reachable by car via the SS51 and SS48 Dolomiti roads. During the race, many mountain passes are closed to traffic: it is advisable to set off well in advance.
Registration is by lottery on the official website www.maratona.it, with pre-registrations opening in the autumn prior. Available spots are around 8,000 against tens of thousands of requests.
