The international documentary film festival celebrating nature, sport, and mountains in the heart of the Dolomites UNESCO
The Dolomiti Film Festival is an international documentary film festival that takes place annually between Cortina d'Ampezzo and San Vito di Cadore, in the heart of the province of Belluno and the Dolomites, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The festival focuses on an international competition of documentaries from around the world, united by the themes of nature, sport, the environment, and mountain culture.
Born as a project by Gooliver and Settimo Binario, the festival has grown edition after edition to become a benchmark event for those who love high-altitude cinema. The festival is not just about screenings: it also hosts special events, meetings with directors, award ceremonies, and collateral initiatives dedicated to environmental protection and the promotion of the Dolomite territory.
Screenings and awards are spread across multiple venues: the Sala Cultura and the Alexander Hall in Cortina d'Ampezzo, and the Sala Polifunzionale E. De Lotto in San Vito di Cadore. The choice of two iconic locations in Cadore reinforces the festival's connection with the landscape it portrays on screen.
In recent years, the festival has developed a theme linked to Olympic and Paralympic sport, in anticipation of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games, for which Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of the symbolic venues. Values such as inclusivity and respect for the mountains run through the entire event, which unites the general public of outdoor enthusiasts with cinephiles.
The sixth edition of the Dolomiti Film Festival is scheduled from July 30 to August 2, 2026, once again between the venues of Cortina d'Ampezzo (Sala Cultura and Alexander Hall) and San Vito di Cadore (Sala Polifunzionale E. De Lotto). The heart of the event remains the international competition of documentaries on nature, sport, environment, and mountain culture, complemented by special events, out-of-competition screenings, and award ceremonies.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition (competition screenings, special events, and guests) is under development and will be published on the official website dolomitifilmfestival.com in the months preceding the event. The usual festival structure includes an opening with a special screening, two central days dedicated to the international documentary competition, the award ceremony, and a concluding day with the "Best of" the awarded works.
