Run through Cortina's Olympic history
Cortina 56-26 — The Legacy Trail was born in 2026 as a commemorative trail celebrating the seventy years separating the 1956 Winter Olympic Games from the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games. The idea is simple and powerful: to transform the Olympic legacy of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the province of Belluno, into a running route that physically crosses the places that made Italian winter sports history.
The route through the Olympic venues
The start is from the heart of the town, under Cortina's Bell Tower, with the finish line in the Zuel area, at the foot of the Olympic Ski Jump. Along the route, you will encounter some of the most iconic venues of the Games: the Ice Stadium, the historic Eugenio Monti bobsleigh track, Col Drusciè, and the Olympia delle Tofane. The longest distance, 56 km, expands the narrative of the Olympic territory by also connecting the Faloria – Vitelli "Ilio Colli" slopes, in a more challenging but equally spectacular loop through the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Three formats for everyone
The event offers three participation modes: the long 56 km trail, the 26 km trail, and a two-person relay, designed for those who want to share the experience and the effort. Organized by the Cortina Foundation in collaboration with Karpos, The Legacy Trail aims to be a bridge between past and future, allowing athletes and enthusiasts to run on ground that is both a sporting stage and the collective memory of the Queen of the Dolomites.
Cortina 56-26 — The Legacy Trail — edition 2026
The first edition of Cortina 56-26 — The Legacy Trail is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The event celebrates the seventy years between the 1956 Olympics and Milan-Cortina 2026, having participants run through the symbolic venues of Ampezzo sport.
Three modes are planned: the 56 km trail, the 26 km trail, and a two-person relay. The start is from the heart of the town, the finish in Zuel, at the foot of the Olympic Ski Jump.

Saturday, July 25, 2026 — Cortina d'Ampezzo
Commemorative trail of the Olympic legacy, organized by the Cortina Foundation in collaboration with Karpos. Start from the centre (under the Bell Tower), finish in Zuel (Olympic Ski Jump).
- 56 km — long route connecting the Olympic venues: Ice Stadium, Eugenio Monti bobsleigh track, Col Drusciè, Olympia delle Tofane, and the Faloria – Vitelli "Ilio Colli" slopes.
- 26 km — from the centre to the Zuel Ski Jump, passing through the Ice Stadium, Eugenio Monti track, Col Drusciè, and Olympia delle Tofane.
- Two-person relay — to tackle the course by sharing the effort.

How to get there
Cortina d'Ampezzo can be reached by car along the SS51 Alemagna; the nearest train station is Calalzo-Pieve di Cadore-Cortina, connected by bus. The start is in the town centre, the finish in Zuel.
