Excellence in food and wine from the Nebrodi mountains in the village of Galati Mamertino
Un Paese in Cucina is the food and wine event that brings Galati Mamertino to life, a charming village in the Metropolitan City of Messina nestled in the Nebrodi Mountains, Sicily. Promoted by the municipal administration and funded by the Regional Department of Agriculture, the festival focuses on the territory's excellent food and wine and the village's extraordinary gastronomic vocation, known for hosting one of the highest densities of restaurateurs in the world.
During the event, the historic center of Galati Mamertino transforms into a culinary trail: squares, alleys, and courtyards host stands, cooking shows, dish presentations, and tastings dedicated to the flavors of the Nebrodi. The stars are the local products—Nebrodi black pork, chestnuts, mushrooms, and hazelnuts—alongside ancient Sicilian grains and the tradition of handmade pasta.
The festival weaves together moments of haute cuisine and rural culture: talk shows and debates on culinary culture, "Hands in the Dough" workshops for children, folk group performances, and live music. Previous editions have featured prominent chefs linked to the Galati area, testifying to the deep bond between the village and the art of fine dining.
Situated in the heart of the Nebrodi Park, Galati Mamertino preserves the remains of an Arab-Norman castle and neighborhoods built around 16th-century churches, some of which house works by the Gagini school. The village is also a gateway to one of the area's most beloved natural sites, the Catafurco Waterfall. Un Paese in Cucina is the ideal opportunity to discover this corner of inland Sicily, combining fine dining, nature, and hiking.
The third edition of Un Paese in Cucina brought the historic center of Galati Mamertino to life on January 31 and February 1, 2026. Maintaining the format of previous editions, the event offered two days dedicated to good food, tastings of typical Nebrodi products, and music. The initiative, promoted by the municipal administration led by Mayor Vincenzo Amadore and supported by the Regional Department of Agriculture, reaffirmed the gastronomic vocation of the village.
Program focused on the excellence of Nebrodi gastronomy, with good food and music over the two days of Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1, 2026. The full program and schedule details were communicated by the municipal administration in the days leading up to the event.
Galati Mamertino is located in the Nebrodi Mountains, in the province of Messina. By car, it can be reached from the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Sant'Agata di Militello exit and continuing inland along the provincial road. The nearest train station is in Sant'Agata di Militello, on the Tyrrhenian line.
The event takes place in the village's historic center. For detailed schedules and an updated program, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Galati Mamertino.
