A festival blending journalism and gastronomy

The Food and Wine Journalism Festival takes place every autumn in Galati Mamertino, a small town in the Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina, in the heart of northern Sicily. Established in 2016, the event has turned this mountain village into a landmark for food communication, creating a dialogue between the world of media and the local food and wine production sector.

Three days of meetings, books, and tastings

The program alternates between professional development sessions and social gatherings. Alongside conferences and panels—often accredited for professional training credits for journalists—the festival features Aperilibro sessions, where book presentations are paired with guided tastings, and "Journalism Tastes" meetings, where speakers from various backgrounds explore the relationship between territory and storytelling through key themes. There is also space for show cooking, workshops, and visits to local businesses and production sites in the Nebrodi area.

The flavors of the Nebrodi at the heart

The festival serves as a showcase for the excellence of the Nebrodi region: Nebrodi black pig charcuterie, cheeses, honey, wine, and other local products are presented through tastings curated by oenologists and experts. Event venues range from the Fondazione Crimi conference hall to the Nebrodi Incubator, as well as scenic estates and locations throughout the municipality.

Culture, information, and regional revitalization

Beyond the gastronomic aspect, the festival addresses hot topics in contemporary journalism—from the relationship between information and algorithms to the role of digital media—with the participation of representatives from the Sicilian Order of Journalists, the Press Association, and other professional institutions. For Galati Mamertino and the entire Nebrodi area, the festival also represents an opportunity to reflect on the development and revitalization of the inland areas of the Sicilian Region.
