About Tuscany Trail

Tuscany Trail is the world's premier bikepacking gathering: over 6,000 cyclists from 69 countries traverse Tuscany along a loop of white gravel roads, winding through medieval villages, vineyards, and historic art cities. Starting and finishing in Campiglia Marittima (Livorno province) at the Venturina Terme exhibition center, the event offers a classic 445 km route and a 160 km 'Newbie' version for those new to saddle adventures. No rankings, no stopwatches: just travelers setting their own pace.

The world's largest bikepacking event

Over the years, the Tuscany Trail has become a benchmark for gravel and mountain bike enthusiasts worldwide. Born in 2014 from an idea by Bike Soul, the event has turned Tuscany into a vast adventure playground on two wheels, attracting thousands of cyclists from across the globe every year. The start and finish lines are located in Campiglia Marittima, at the Venturina Terme exhibition center in the Province of Livorno, along the Tyrrhenian coast of Tuscany.

A "no-race" philosophy

The Tuscany Trail is not a race: there are no rankings, stopwatches, or winners. The philosophy is one of self-supported travel: each participant follows a fixed GPS track and decides for themselves where and when to stop to eat, sleep, or admire a sunset. On average, the loop is completed in about four days, but everyone is free to take as much time as they wish.

The routes

The main track spans a large loop of approximately 445 kilometers with over 5,300 meters of elevation gain, following white gravel roads that wind through vineyards, olive groves, and medieval villages. For those new to bikepacking, a 160 km Newbie version is available, which can be completed in two days. The route connects dozens of Tuscan towns, from the Livorno coast to the Val d'Orcia, passing through the Crete Senesi, Volterra, and San Gimignano.

An international event

The 2026 edition saw over 6,100 participants from 69 countries, with international riders making up about 67% of the field. The most represented nations included Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, the United States, the Netherlands, France, and Austria. To manage the influx, departures are organized in multiple waves spread over three days, with about a thousand cyclists per wave.

Discovering Tuscany

Cycling the Tuscany Trail means traversing some of the most evocative landscapes in the Tuscany Region: from the Maremma seaside to the Chianti hills, from perched hilltop villages to cities of art. The event blends sport with food and wine tourism, showcasing local products and offering participants an experience that goes far beyond simple athletic performance.

Sustainable mobility

The organization encourages arriving by train with your bike in tow: during the event, dedicated rail connections are provided for bicycle transport between major local hubs, from Pisa to Grosseto and Piombino, making it easy to reach the starting point in Campiglia Marittima.

Tuscany Trail — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Tuscany Trail confirmed the event's leadership, with over 6,100 participants from 69 countries and 67% international riders. Staggered departures from May 20 to 22 from the Venturina Terme exhibition center in Campiglia Marittima, along the 445 km loop of Tuscan white roads. New features included the optional Chianti Detour and a partnership with the Maremma Toscana Wine Consortium.

The 2026 Tuscany Trail kicked off on May 20 from Campiglia Marittima, with departures spread over three days in waves of about a thousand cyclists each. With over 6,100 participants from 69 countries, the event set a new record for international attendance, welcoming cyclists from nations like Japan, China, Iceland, and Ethiopia for the first time.

The 2026 edition introduced the Chianti Detour, an optional scenic detour of about 100 km in the heart of the Chianti region, which could be chosen directly along the route. Alongside the classic 445 km loop, the 160 km Newbie version remained available. Thanks to a collaboration with the Maremma Toscana Wine Consortium, an official refreshment point was set up in Castiglione della Pescaia.
