A festival dedicated to the scorzone, the truffle of summer

The Tuscan Scorzone Truffle Festival is the event that celebrates one of the most iconic products of the Bassa Valdelsa hills in Montespertoli, near Florence: the summer black truffle, commonly known as scorzone. Unlike the rarer winter varieties, the scorzone matures during the warmer months, offering a delicate, fresh aroma that perfectly complements traditional Tuscan dishes. The event takes place at the Urban Park on Via Volterrana Nord and is organized by the Association of Truffle Hunters of the Bassa Valdelsa Hills, an organization active since 1992 in managing controlled truffle grounds and protecting the region's symbiotic plants.

The menu: everything scented with truffle

The food stalls offer numerous Tuscan specialties featuring the scorzone truffle. Featured dishes include:

• Truffle hunter's appetizer, rich in local flavors;
• Tagliolini with truffle and truffle crespelle;
• Fried eggs with truffle;
• Truffle hunter's sliced steak and truffle-infused pork loin;
• Beef tartare seasoned with summer truffle;
• to finish, desserts and cantuccini with vinsanto, paired with a selection of local Chianti wines.

Montespertoli, land of truffles and Chianti

Known as one of the "truffle towns" of Tuscany, Montespertoli is a municipality in the province of Florence surrounded by vineyards and woods, where truffle hunting is a deep-rooted practice passed down through generations. The festival is more than just a culinary event; it is a cultural moment dedicated to showcasing local truffle heritage and the hard work of the hunters who protect these hills. The atmosphere is that of a classic Tuscan village fair, with convivial outdoor dining tables set within the greenery of the Urban Park.

When and how to participate

The event spans two weekends in June. Stalls are open every evening for dinner starting at 7:30 PM, while on Sundays, lunch is also available from 12:00 PM. Reservations are recommended by contacting the Truffle Hunters Association. Admission to the park is free, and you pay for what you consume at the food stalls, with affordable prices designed for families and food lovers.
