Public art, dance, and performances under the sky of the Florentine Chianti
Planetario — Contemporary Signs under the Chianti Sky is a public and participatory art project debuting in 2026 in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, in the heart of the Florentine Chianti, in the province of Florence. Promoted by the Municipality with the support of the Tuscany Region, the Museum System of Chianti and Florentine Valdarno, and ChiantiBanca, the festival invites dance and visual artists to engage with the landscape, weaving together rural and urban worlds, historical heritage, and a vision of the future.
The artistic direction is entrusted to Pietro Gaglianò, a critic and curator who has imagined a journey consisting of five stages in some of the most evocative places in the area: La Pia in Percussina, the Museo Giuliano Ghelli, Fattoria La Loggia, the Arena tra le Mura in San Casciano, and Villa del Cigliano, part of the Tenuta Antinori. Each event is conceived as an encounter between artwork, performance, and community, in dialogue with the history and nature of Chianti.
The program brings together some of the most important voices in Italian contemporary art and dance: Silvia Cini, Concetta Modica, Claudia Caldarano, Virgilio Sieni with his company, and Francesco Carone. Their works range from collective botanical inventories to historical memory, from dance exploring the body to the sculpture that closes the festival on the night of the Rificolona.
All Planetario events are free of charge: reservations are only required for the aperitifs accompanying some evenings. The festival thus positions itself as an open cultural experience, capable of bringing residents and visitors closer to contemporary art in a unique setting like the Chianti hills, just a few kilometers from Florence.
The first edition of Planetario unfolds throughout the summer of 2026 with five widespread events in the iconic locations of San Casciano in Val di Pesa and the Florentine Chianti. The festival alternates installations, participatory projects, and dance performances, bringing contemporary art into dialogue with the landscape, historical memory, and local traditions. From Silvia Cini's botanical walk to the night of the Rificolona with Francesco Carone's sculpture, each evening is an experience designed for the community, with free admission.
