The traditional festival of Contrada Feudo in Naso, blending faith, folk traditions, and the flavors of the Nebrodi mountains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Michele Arcangelo Festival in Contrada Feudo is one of the most heartfelt traditions in Naso, a medieval village perched nearly 500 meters high in the Nebrodi mountains, in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily. The event takes place in the picturesque setting of Contrada Feudo, known for its impressive fountain and the small, spherical church dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo, which comes alive every September during the celebrations in honor of the Saint.
The religious heart of the festival is the procession of the statue of San Michele Arcangelo through the streets of the district, followed by a solemn Holy Mass. The liturgical moments are accompanied by the notes of the "Giuseppe Verdi" Band of Naso, which has always provided the soundtrack for the procession and celebration, lending a charming, local solemnity to the day.
Devotion is paired with the more convivial and popular side of the festival. In the evening, the district transforms into a meeting place where you can taste crespelle, local specialties, and fresh watermelon from the Fontana. Among the most anticipated events is the ancient pignateddi game, a popular tradition that entertains both young and old, followed by the final raffle. The evening is rounded off with live music that keeps the atmosphere vibrant until the grand finale.
The festival concludes with a fireworks display that illuminates the sky over the district, while light installations created by local artisans add to the enchanting evening atmosphere. It is the moment when the entire Contrada Feudo community, along with visitors from Naso and neighboring towns, gathers to bid farewell to the district's patron saint.
The festival is also a perfect opportunity to discover Naso, a village of ancient origins rich in churches, noble palaces, and panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Aeolian Islands. Visiting Contrada Feudo during the festivities means immersing yourself in an authentic side of inland Sicily, defined by traditions passed down through generations and the warm hospitality that is the true hallmark of Naso's neighborhood festivals.
The program for the 2026 edition of the San Michele Arcangelo Festival in Contrada Feudo has not yet been released. Based on tradition, the festivities are expected to be held in September in the Contrada Feudo of Naso, featuring the procession of the statue, Holy Mass accompanied by the "Giuseppe Verdi" Band of Naso, and the usual convivial moments with tastings, traditional games, and a fireworks display. Information will be updated as soon as the festival committee publishes the dates and program.
The festival is held in Contrada Feudo in the municipality of Naso (ME), at the church of San Michele Arcangelo, in the Nebrodi mountains.
By car: take the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, exit at Brolo or Rocca di Caprileone, then follow local roads towards Naso. The district is accessible via the municipal roads connecting the town center to the rural hamlets.
The festivities traditionally take place in September. For the exact dates and program of the current edition, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Naso and the festival committee.
