The meatball festival in the village of Novara di Sicilia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Meatball Festival is an autumn food and wine event held in the heart of Novara di Sicilia, a charming village in the province of Messina, officially recognized as one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages. Perched on the ridge that separates the Peloritani mountains from the Nebrodi, the town is famous for its narrow cobblestone and sandstone streets. For two days, it becomes the stage for a celebration entirely dedicated to one of the most beloved dishes in Italian tradition: the meatball.
The theme of the event is the meatball, explored in every possible interpretation. Along the gastronomic route set up in the historic center, stalls offer meatballs in a variety of versions:
The meatballs are served fried, in sauce, baked, or braised, paired with other local specialties. The festival was created to promote local gastronomy and highlight the village's unique identity.
In addition to the tastings, the Meatball Festival offers live music, entertainment, and activities for all ages that keep visitors company through the alleys until late. Strolling along the cobblestone streets, surrounded by sandstone churches and houses while the air fills with the aromas of home cooking, offers an authentic experience that combines culinary pleasure with the discovery of the historical and architectural heritage of Novara di Sicilia.
Novara di Sicilia is a land of culture and tradition: home to Maiorchino, the prized hard cheese that is also the star of the famous Maiorchino Game, the village preserves a history marked by Arab, Norman, and Cistercian influences and guards the rare Gallo-Italic dialect. The Meatball Festival fits into this context as an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the province of Messina and Sicily, where conviviality around the table becomes a true community celebration.
The 2026 edition of the Meatball Festival in Novara di Sicilia has not yet been officially scheduled. Based on previous editions held between late September and October, a new autumn gathering in the village's historic center is likely. The program, dates, and details will be communicated by the organizers via the official channels of the Municipality of Novara di Sicilia.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Novara di Sicilia (ME), with stalls set up along the village streets. Admission to the event area is free; tastings are paid for at individual stalls.
By car, Novara di Sicilia can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway (exit at Falcone or Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto), continuing toward the Peloritani hinterland. The nearest train stations are located on the Tyrrhenian coast. It is recommended to arrive early to find parking near the historic center.
