About Meatball Festival

Every autumn, the Meatball Festival brings the historic center of Novara di Sicilia to life. Nestled between the Peloritani and Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina, this town is recognized as one of Italy's most beautiful villages. For two days, the cobblestone streets fill with food stalls dedicated to the meatball in all its forms: meat, vegetarian, fish, sweet, and gourmet reinterpretations. With tastings, live music, and entertainment for all ages, the event celebrates a staple of Italian cuisine while showcasing the typical products of the Sicilian territory.

The Meatball Festival in Novara di Sicilia

The Meatball Festival is an autumn food and wine event held in the heart of Novara di Sicilia, a charming village in the province of Messina, officially recognized as one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages. Perched on the ridge that separates the Peloritani mountains from the Nebrodi, the town is famous for its narrow cobblestone and sandstone streets. For two days, it becomes the stage for a celebration entirely dedicated to one of the most beloved dishes in Italian tradition: the meatball.

Meatballs in every variation

The theme of the event is the meatball, explored in every possible interpretation. Along the gastronomic route set up in the historic center, stalls offer meatballs in a variety of versions:

  • Meat-based, following traditional Sicilian peasant recipes;
  • Vegetarian, prepared with seasonal vegetables;
  • Fish-based, inspired by the nearby Tyrrhenian coast;
  • Sweet, and gourmet reinterpretations by local chefs and businesses.

The meatballs are served fried, in sauce, baked, or braised, paired with other local specialties. The festival was created to promote local gastronomy and highlight the village's unique identity.

Music, entertainment, and village atmosphere

In addition to the tastings, the Meatball Festival offers live music, entertainment, and activities for all ages that keep visitors company through the alleys until late. Strolling along the cobblestone streets, surrounded by sandstone churches and houses while the air fills with the aromas of home cooking, offers an authentic experience that combines culinary pleasure with the discovery of the historical and architectural heritage of Novara di Sicilia.

A village of traditions

Novara di Sicilia is a land of culture and tradition: home to Maiorchino, the prized hard cheese that is also the star of the famous Maiorchino Game, the village preserves a history marked by Arab, Norman, and Cistercian influences and guards the rare Gallo-Italic dialect. The Meatball Festival fits into this context as an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the province of Messina and Sicily, where conviviality around the table becomes a true community celebration.

Meatball Festival — edition 2026

Following the success of previous editions, the Meatball Festival is expected to return to the historic center of Novara di Sicilia in autumn 2026. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers; the event traditionally takes place between late September and October. We are awaiting the publication of the official calendar and program.

The 2026 edition of the Meatball Festival in Novara di Sicilia has not yet been officially scheduled. Based on previous editions held between late September and October, a new autumn gathering in the village's historic center is likely. The program, dates, and details will be communicated by the organizers via the official channels of the Municipality of Novara di Sicilia.
