The truffles of the Monti Dauni in the village of Roseto Valfortore
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Truffle Festival is the event that kicks off and defines the summer in Roseto Valfortore, a small town of about 1,300 inhabitants nestled in a valley of the northern Monti Dauni, in the province of Foggia, Puglia. Recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and surrounded by forests at the foot of Monte Cornacchia, the region's highest peak, the village celebrates one of its territory's most precious products.
The forests enveloping Roseto Valfortore guard a little-known but highly valuable treasure: the truffles of the Monti Dauni, particularly the Black Hooked Truffle (Tartufo Nero Uncinato). The festival was created to promote this gastronomic excellence and the tradition of truffle hunting, bringing producers, restaurateurs, and enthusiasts together in a celebration that blends flavors, culture, and local identity.
The heart of the event is hosted in Piazza Bartolomeo III di Capua, accessed through the Arco della Terra, the ancient entrance to the historic center. Here, a show cooking session takes place with local chefs competing live to showcase the truffle in all its forms. From the square, the public moves along the stone alleys on a gastronomic trail marked by themed islands with truffle-based tastings, accompanied by the wandering music of local folk groups and entertainment designed for families.
The Truffle Festival is also an opportunity to discover one of the most charming villages in the Subappennino Dauno: stone houses, the 1507 Mother Church of Santa Maria Assunta, portals carved with the wild rose that symbolizes the town, and narrow streets climbing the hillside. Taste, folk tradition, and landscape merge in an evening that has become a highly anticipated summer appointment in the Monti Dauni.
The 2026 Truffle Festival is part of the Summer 2026 events program in Roseto Valfortore, where it kicks off the month of August as a flagship event. At the moment, the exact dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been communicated by the organizers. As in previous years, the festival is expected to enliven Piazza Bartolomeo III di Capua and the alleys of the historic center with local chef show cooking, a gastronomic trail featuring Monti Dauni truffles, folk music, and family entertainment. For updated dates and programs, we recommend following the Pro Loco and Municipality channels.
