Ferragosto in Tramonti di Sotto with trout, salted cheese, and music
The Trout and Salted Cheese Festival is one of the most traditional events of the summer in Val Tramontina, in the heart of the Friulian Dolomites, in the province of Pordenone. With its sixtieth edition reached in 2025, it is one of the longest-running festivals in the entire region, organised by Pro Loco Valtramontina in the town of Tramonti di Sotto. The festival was created to celebrate the two products that identify this valley: trout, farmed and fished in the clear waters of the Meduna river, and salted cheese, a guardian of Tramonti's cheesemaking tradition.
The heart of the festival are the food stalls, open every evening, where you can taste the typical dishes of Val Tramontina: trout fillet, salted cheese, and then gnocchi, pitina (the ancient meatball typical of the area), pistùm, frico, cheeses, and traditional desserts. It is a journey into the authentic flavours of the Pordenone mountains, told through simple, characterful cuisine.
A rich entertainment program revolves around the food. The evenings come alive with concerts, dancing evenings with orchestras, shows for families, DJ sets, and comedy moments, up to the unmissable tombola. The festival embraces the Ferragosto period, transforming Tramonti di Sotto into a meeting point for residents, holidaymakers, and visitors looking for the authentic atmosphere of mountain festivals.
The festival takes place in Tramonti di Sotto, in Val Tramontina, reachable from Meduno and Spilimbergo. The event is traditionally held around August 15th, in the heart of summer.
For 2026, the Trout and Salted Cheese Festival renews the Ferragosto event in Tramonti di Sotto, traditionally around August 15th. The formula with stalls dedicated to the typical products of Val Tramontina, evenings of music and dancing, shows for families, and the big tombola are confirmed.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by Pro Loco Valtramontina. The established structure of the festival includes:
How to get there: Tramonti di Sotto (PN) is reached by car, going up the Val Tramontina from Meduno; reference exits on the A28 motorway. Mountain roads.
Admission: free entry; paid consumption at the stalls.
Accommodation: accommodation facilities in Val Tramontina and in the Spilimbergo area.
