Nole celebrates Republic Day with tradition, local pastries, and music
Every year, around June 2nd, the town of Nole, a small centre in the Canavese area near Turin, hosts two intense days with the Tricolour Festival and Öfela Festival. The initiative combines the official Republic Day celebrations with the historic Öfela Festival, one of the most cherished events for the local community. Concerts, street food, culture, local associations, and civic ceremonies are all part of a programme designed for all ages.
The delicious heart of the festival is the öfela (or ofela), a traditional Canavese pastry, similar in dough and appearance to a wafer or the well-known Piedmontese gofri. Prepared according to a recipe passed down through generations, the öfela is the common thread linking the festival to the area's rural heritage. During the event, visitors can taste this simple, authentic treat, which is deeply rooted in the town's identity.
The festival kicks off on Saturday at the NoleForum with a street food area in the evening and a free concert to liven up the first night. Sunday is dedicated to civic and traditional events: the official opening in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the flag-raising ceremony in front of the Town Hall, and the presentation of the Constitution to new adults, a symbolic moment dedicated to young people and civic values.
Throughout Sunday, the streets and squares of Nole are filled with exhibitions, artisans, hobbyists, and association stands, featuring artistic activities, children's entertainment, and themed displays. Organized by the Pro Loco of Nole with the support of the Municipality, the event is an opportunity to rediscover the town's roots and enjoy a day of celebration that highlights tradition, taste, and a sense of belonging to the Canavese and Piedmont regions.
The 2026 edition opened on Saturday, June 6th at the NoleForum with the street food area from 7:00 PM and, at 9:30 PM, a free concert by the Royal Party Band. On Sunday, June 7th, the day began at 9:30 AM in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II with the official opening, followed at 10:30 AM by the flag-raising ceremony in front of the Town Hall and the presentation of the Constitution to the new adults born in 2008. In the afternoon, a new bicycle workshop was inaugurated in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, and at 5:00 PM, the Nole marching band performed in Piazza della Resistenza. Throughout the day, there were exhibitions, artisans, hobbyists, associations, artistic activities, the "Grisulandia" space, and a historical exhibition curated by the National Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Nole.
Nole is located in the Canavese area, about 25 km north of Turin. By car, it can be reached via the SP1 or SR460 roads in the direction of Ciriè-Lanzo. By train, it is served by the Turin-Ceres line (Nole station). Activities take place in the town centre, between Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the Town Hall area, and the NoleForum.
Admission to the events and concerts is free. The street food area opens on Saturday evening; on Sunday, activities begin in the morning with the official opening and flag-raising ceremony. For the updated programme, it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality of Nole and the Pro Loco.
